Even after laying out half a billion dollars to collect or retain nine free agents, blowing through the luxury-tax threshold they were once so fixated on, surviving their legal strife with their former third baseman (guess who?) and setting a new standard for most money paid to a man (Tanaka) who had never set foot on a major league field, the Yankees remain a team with many questions. But if you don't think they're much improved, you need to seek help for your deep-seated, Yankee-hater issues immediately. Name a team that added four players as important and impactful as Carlos Beltran, Brian McCann, Jacoby Ellsbury and Tanaka. Go ahead. We dare you. "They're clearly the most improved team in the league," said one exec. "Of course, they'd better be, for what they spent."
I really enjoyed the Yankees circus last year. I'm going to enjoy it even more this season if Tanaka doesn't come out blazing hot and Ellsbury pulls his usual "I'm gonna make Gronk look like Cal Ripken" routine by mid June.
Yeah, when the Rockies traded Fowler for basically nothing, I didn't have any high hopes for the team.
That said, my god the Dodgers have loads of pitching. They have 8 guys that are starting capable(as in, at least an okay 5th starter). However, outside of Kershaw, Greinike and Ryu, its tough to say who is in.
Billingsley has the health concerns, Beckett as well and has been sucky of late, Haren has flatlined out almost, Fife is still questionable, Maholm is decent but not wow.
IMO, they should just cut ties with Beckett. Have Haren and if he can go Billinglsey, with Maholm in the long relief spot starter role.
I definitely could see the Dodgers winning it all this year if they stay healthy. Depth could be an issue for them though.
