  • Best movie(s) of all time

Just had a little movie marathon with the girl that we often do on Sunday nights. Got extended from the usual two, to three thanks to a little extra wine. We watched "The Departed", (My personal fave) "Blood Diamond", (never had seen it, was FANTASTIC) and "Sleepless In Seattle". (Shoot me)

Just curious as to what my fellow maners favorites are. It can be anything from cartoons to the Godfather. No judgement here.

Goonies - is there any real need for explanation
Top Gun - because I am an aviation nerd and have been since age 3. Spent many a summer buzzing the tower with my F-14 Huffy (movie is pretty bad though!)
      The original Super Man series

People tell me it's a crime I've never seen Shawshank Redemption. Gladiator, Braveheart, Dark Knight, all in my top 10-15.

I'm an uber film geek (well just geek really) so excuse my weirdness:
Pre-1960: Citizen Kane, His Girl Friday, Philadelphia Story, Bringing Up Baby (Most things with Cary Grant or Katharine Hepburn).
Horror: Silence of the Lambs, Psycho, Halloween (1978) Nightmare on Elm Street (1984); Shaun of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead (both versions, tho I prefer the remake)
                  Comedy: Almost anything with Bill Murray but specifically Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, Scrooged;
Action: Die Hard, Lethal Weapon (1, not the sequels), Batman Begins, Raiders of the Lost Ark
Suspense: Most Hitchcock Films, Jaws (could be horror or suspense I guess), The 6th Sense, Memento
Crime Films: LA Confidential, Reservoir Dogs, Godfather 1 and 2, Usual Suspects, Shawshank Redemption
Romance: Umm, Super Bowl XXXII game film? I like Romancing the Stone. Out of Sight, Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth); Bridget Jones
Sports: Bull Durham, Breaking Away, Bend it Like Beckham
Kids: ET and Goonies and Gremlins

I'm a big fan of crime films and I know its cliche but the Godfather to me is absolutely impeccable. I also love Quentin Tarantino movies - Pulp Fiction is awesome. On the flip side - I find many animated films to be awesome for some reason - How to Train Your Dragon, Up, the Incredibles etc etc.

I'm the only one I know who admits to not having seen every film ever made and therefore can say nothing about "best films ever/all time"... but here are some favorites I've seen:

                      Dr. Strangelove
                      2001
                      Mulholland Drive
                      Eraserhead
                      Dead Man
                      Baraka
                      Jaws
                      Blood Simple
                      Children of Men
                      Vertigo
                      Yojimbo
Once Upon a Time in the West
                      Touch of Evil
                      Taxi Driver
                      The Raid
                      The Empire Strikes Back
                      Office Space

Ditto on the crime movies. Up made me sad, honestly. Cartoon movies would be the last kind of movie I would think could put me down in the dumps, but that one did.

Pulp Fiction is up there, although I might prefer Reservoir Dogs. Two of QT's best works.

Big Lebowski...can't not watch that movie every time it's on.

                              Se7en was a good show.
