  • Kickoffs may be moved to 40 yrd line!

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ffs-to-the-40/

The Competition Committee announced today that owners will vote at next week’s league meeting on whether to move kickoffs again, this time to the 40-yard line.

How close to the 50 yrd line before teams feel onside kicks are more worth it?

It used to be a scrum at your 40 yrd line. But if this rule goes through the scrum is now at the 50 yrd line or even to the opponets side of the field.

A chance to have the ball, or give the other team 30 yrds.

This is also true about going for it on 4th down, yet nobody does it. And I'll take my odds on a 4th and 3 over recovering a non-surprise onside.

Just do away with the whole ****ing thing.

Let teams start on its own 20 all the time. They want the kick return extinct, might as well add onside kicks to that too.

          Giants will be pissed.

Holliday's value just plummeted even more.

How long until they are wearing flags yet still expecting people to watch? It's a gladiator sport. People pay and get paid so the masses can get their entertainment.

How long before they put a speed limit on Nascar?

Restricter plates have kept speeds down on the super speedways for a while already.

I love the idea. I'd eliminate the playoffs too... Everybody just get a trophy at the end of the season for trying really hard. Everybody gets a mini Lombardi, no feeling or bodies are hurt.

This would mean your players are 5 yards closer. If I were a special teams coach I'd use this to my advantage and get my kickoff specialist to do his best to pooch it with good hang time inside the 5 yard line in order to make a play and make them start inside the 10 yard line.

I hope someone would exploit the **** out of this rule.

You mean like pooch kick it to someone such as Percy Harvin, then bother not to touch him?

Kickers would have to all learn to pop the ball up for onside kicks. Then you always line up for onside kick and force defense to defend it.

But you have a great pooch kick you also run which puts pressure on lone returner to make decision.

Or about 80% of the time you just kick it out the back of the endzone.

If the returner is dangerous I think you always kick it out, or onside it. You never let them touch it.

That leads to frustration and bad decision making from returners.
