  • Broncos still have $10 million in CAP space

Even after Talib, Ware, and Ward have been signed the Broncos have $10 million left to use on free agency/draft picks. This excludes any additional money that we have if we cut Tamme/Dressen. This tells me a couple things.

    1. Decker was simply not wanted - For whatever reason Decker was not liked by our front office, because we COULD have afforded him. He signed a 5yr/36 million dollar deal with is basically $7 million a year. We easily could have afforded him on our roster. He said he was willing to take a pay cut, and he also called the Broncos after the Jets made the offer and we said no interest. This tells me that they believe with a deep draft we can easily replace him.

    2. We will sign one more free agent at a minimum, but will probably wait for the market to dry up and sign that person cheap as ****

    On a separate note, let me know what you want to see us do with the $10 million (possibly $16 million). For me it is;

    1. DRC - I know he turned down our offer of 6/54, but as the market dries up for CB I think he is going to realize that he needs to sign a deal to keep him in the league. As much as we don't want to admit it, he is the best CB on the market right now and he would be a great signing. We could pick up a CB in the draft but none of them will be as good right now. Alternatively Tarrel Brown from the 49ers, but either way we need another good corner, maybe wait until more cuts come. Cromartie/Tillman might be worth a look.

    2. Daryl Smith - He would go a long way to solving our MLB issues, and we could get him reasonable. While I like this idea to an extent, I really hope we get bold and move up for C.J. Mosley.

    3. Julius Peppers/Jared Allen - If we somehow pulled one of these guys for a reasonable amount no QB would be safe. Move Wolfe inside on first and second downs, then bring in Big Q on third for a pass rush. Book end the line with Peppers and Ware and bring Miller screaming off one side. Maybe Rajii at DT.

    4. Hakeem Nicks - Like it or not he is an excellent player and would be a pretty damn good fit. I REALLY wanted Golden Tate, but that ship has sailed. In the draft I am PRAYING we take Paul Richardson from Colorado in the 2nd, he might have the best rookie year for a WR in forever. Perhaps Santonio Holmes or James Jones.

    5. Shaun Phillips - Still productive and we could get him cheap.
    6. Devin Heste/Josh Cribbsr - We need a kick returner now and we could have a great one cheap.
    7. Sit on it and roll it into next year.
    Thoughts?

    DRC? Are you joking?

You should realize that's just not possible you can't pay 2 cornerbacks like that, you'll be signing depth players in the 1-4m range with the rest of that money, maybe a starting MLB you'll sign but your big splash is done.

DRC was talking about retirement around the SB. I question his commitment.

DRC would have to come in on a 2 yr deal and take a haircut something like 6-7, which is not very likely, but you never know how that might work for a guy that is looking at a market really drying up or having to play somewhere crappy.

Then you have no MLB and what happens if you get injuries? You have no depth and how do you plan on paying your draft class?

You surely need o-line depth too.

sigh.........................I can't believe I"m actually going to agree with this troll.

OP your post is just full of flawed logic, beyond just the DRC move.

I wonder if they don't bring Tillman in as CB depth, he has got zero interest and would be fine for a 1 year nickle corner.

We could use a guy who can generate turnovers even if he is doing his peanut punch 10-15 yards downfield. A turnover is a turn over.

Wouldn't mind a specialist KR and a vet MLB depth.

                1. Oakland has a **** ton of money and need to spend a lot more or face sanctions. They could easily afford DRC.

                2. Would be nice to get him. He'd be a huge help.

                3. We have Q. Smith and L. McCray on IR from last year. Both (especially Smith) are going to be fighting to be pass rushers for our team. We're not going to nab another old vet because it will mean cutting young talent and dedicating too much cap the the position.

                4. As shown by releasing Decker and Manning's history. We don't need to sign some big shot FA WR. We'll draft one or sneakily sign one like Brandon LaFell (who has similar measurables to Eric Decker) out of Carolina. Again a waste of cap to chase people like Nicks.

                5. Similar issue to 3. McCray fills a similar spot as Phillips. McCray also has the same height and is only 6lb lighter.

                6. Would be nice. Bubba might be filling that role now.

I'd like to bring Champ back cheap if he doesn't land anywhere else.

I don't think that's the case at tall. They just didn't want him at the money it would have taken to keep him. They've known since before the season ended that it wouldn't work out to keep him financially. DT will command a huge payday, and JT also won't be cheap. Can't pay everybody the elite player level $$$. Not enough cap, and not enough cash.

We have some young guys that the FO likes on the OL, Painter's name was thrown around during the season. They wouldn't have let Beadles walk if they were worried about OL depth.

If you pay 6-7 million for DRC, there is nothing left for MLB, depth, and draft picks.
