  • Extra points moved to 43 yard kick?

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200...rd-extra-point

Personally, I think this is a terrible idea.

I get the idea of wanting to have the XP be more competitive, however, I would rather see them just make a TD an automatic 7 points, and then have the option to go for an extra point with a play to reach the endzone (same as 2pt conversion now) and if you don't make it, your TD counts for 6 points.

Moving the XP to the 25 yard line will create more pointless injuries imo, with teams feeling they need to attack more on each try.

Make it real interesting and limit 1 roster spot for kicker/punter/kickoff specialist. Shanny used to have a Punter, a kicker, and a kickoff specialist who had a big leg for kickoffs. Make the punter be responsible for FG's and PAT's and suddenly your back to the 70's and earlier type conversion percentages.

Or better yet make them drop kick it.

I agree with this part. However, I think the longer extra point is better than the current "automatic" extra point. Each point should be earned.

Make the QB throw it through a hula-hoop at 45 yards......... and we need bears on bicycles in the end zone and refs wearing clown suits.

The more I think about it, i really don't mind it. Its an extra wrinkle for strategy. If youre down by 1 with 20 seconds to go, and have a shaky kicker, maybe it makes you think twice.

yah, I agree. At least it makes the extra point somewhat relative, as of now, it's a total gimme, unless the kicker goes full retard.

I'd rather they just do what college has and make it a live ball if blocked and the team can score 2 points if they return it for a score.

It's good that they're discussing it. The XP now is pointless + pointless wear and tear players need to put on their bodies.

Either give the team 7 or let them take 6 and go for 2.

I see what they're doing though...NFL trying to encourage teams to go for 2 for more exciting games and potentially higher scoring.

                  They're not sneaky.

I think the idea of giving 7 points for a TD but then taking 1 away unless they can complete a 2 point play is the most stupid idea in all of sports. The PAT has tradition and things can go wrong. They should keep it as it is now but only make the PAT longer, which it sounds like they are doing.

There goes the fake Fg pass/run if kicking it from the 25.

I think busty chicks in tight tee shirts should have to run a relay with Robert Conrad and Gabe Kaplan, the problem with the NFL is that there is not enough "Battle of the Network Stars" in it.

so what's wrong with the extra point again? I must have missed it. All these years it's been a kick from the 2 yard line and now it needs to be changed? For what porpoise?

The defense can't defend it. It's an afterthought. Why is it part of the game?
