  • Stay Classy Kraft (Wes Welker Realted)

Patriots president Jonathan Kraft says Wes Welker overestimated his own market value when he turned down New England's final offer prior to free agency last year.

“We still offered Wes before free agency started, more than he ended up getting in the open market,” Kraft said, via the Boston Globe. “But once free agency started, we went out and signed Danny because he fit a construct that worked within our system, and we couldn’t take the risk of losing both Wes and Danny.
That clearly worked out fantastically for them.

what do you guys think we do with Tebow this offseason? I mean it was fun and all, but I'm just not sure he's the long-term solution.

And Welker is the first guy to ever do this not considering this is the case with about 90% of free agents every year.

What do you guys think of Shanahan giving up front office duties? I think he can still coach, but the offseason moves are maddening. And how about retaining the same D Coordinator for more than 1 season?

That is hilarious considering the Pats are reportedly shopping Amendola because he cannot stay healthy.

Not sure what you are implying, but he is right. There was a thread about Kraft whining about Welker leaving NE for Denver for less money last offseason.

I was hoping this was a story about Wes slipping on a mac n cheese box and falling into a tv...

NFL teams say the name of Danny Amendola has been floated in trade talks. The Patriots signed the wide receiver to a five-year, $28.5 million contract last offseason, but Amendola struggled to stay healthy and did not have the kind of impact the team envisioned him having. Amendola caught 54 passes for 633 yards with Tom Brady throwing to him. He had two better seasons when he played in St. Louis with Sam Bradford throwing to him. There has been speculation the Patriots could cut Amendola if a deal cannot be worked out.

If unable to find a trade partner, the Pats are said to be willing to even cut Amendola, to the tune of a $4.8M dead money hit and a net loss of $225K in cap space.

Amazing that most fans saw this coming.

Maybe Welker did not overestimate his value. Maybe he thought that if that was all the pats were going to offer he rather play for Denver for less.
