  • Tim Tebow Trade Was A 'Mistake' Admits Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum

    http://da.radio.cbssports.com/2014/0...was-a-mistake/

Mike Tannenbaum spent more than 15 years with the New York Jets, from 1997 to 2012, and served a variety of roles. First, he negotiated player contracts. Later, he was senior vice president of football operations. Then, he was assistant general manager.
And, in 2006, he became general manager.
The Jets advanced to two AFC Championship games under Tannenbaum’s watch, but he was let go following a disappointing 2012 season in which the Jets lost their last three games and finished 6-10. The Jets lost their last three games in 2011 as well, finishing 8-8 and missing the playoffs.
Looking back at his tenure, there are numerous things Tannenbaum would have done differently.
“I think some of the mistakes made were from the bottom end of our roster up,” Tannenbaum said on The Damon Amendolara Show. “So when you lose guys like Jim Leonhard or Danny Woodhead or Jerricho Cotchery, it affects a lot of things – not just what they do on the field, but what they do in the locker room.
“Obviously we made a couple mistakes – trading for Tim Tebow most notably. But I would say beyond that, but we (could have done a better job with the bottom of our roster), especially toward the end.”

The mistake was not trading for Tebow. It was trading for Tebow with absolutely no intention of every playing him except as a PR gimmick.

It was a joke from start to finish, and Jets fans AND Tebow deserved better.

Tebow gets a fair share of the blame for favoring the Jets trade over the (alleged) trade to the Jaguars. And the Jags were really the *only* team that made any sense.

But when the Jets traded for Tebow, it was just one more clown face added to the already crowded clown car.

        What makes us happy?
        Really!
I mean we're on our way to the freakin' superbowl and we get these type of threads, for what, I may ask?
Why is this relevant to what's going on with our team?

Well, about the only relevant thing is that we get another extra $1.5million of cap space in 2014 from the Tebow trade since the Jets took on his contract!!

well teboned got what he deserved he got greedy wouldnt accept any other position, and wouldnt or couldnt work on his qb skills . as for the others here who are bitchin moaning i posted this i found it entertaining how the jets got the booby prize and we got a qb who is taking us all the way to the super bowl also it was the media who put tebow on a pedestal ie skip bayless . tooboned just took the opportunity to thank god for the chance .as the media went all ga ga over him. i admit i like the kid felt sorry for him til i herrd some where that why shouldnt he not have a good practice while his team mates had to. then the pats exposed tebow as a craptastic qb when he has to straight up throw the ball

cap space and a 4th or 5th round if memory serves. Jets ate the big one taking up his ridiculous 1st rd contract that McD gave him.

I seem to recall it was actually a mostly incentive based contract that was was below market value for a 1st rounder.
