  • Jeremy Mincey

This is more of a question thread than a statement thread, but what do our more observant and perhaps All-22 supplied posters think about our most recent defensive acquisition? IAOFM mentioned that he's been a reason for our recently improved run defense, and I'm just wondering if that's true. I didn't know who he was, but apparently he had fairly productive 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons in Jacksonville.

Is this guy actually going to be an important part of our D in the playoffs?

Aren't there some questions about his motivation for the NFL? We need a run stuffer and guy to get pressure inside, I hope he's the fit..

The Raiders.. Are they technically even playing football anymore?

Consider me fooled if they are

By the way, what's with the All-22 stuff anyway. I know you can get that footage on the NFL.com rewind thing, but is there any other way to get the all-22 vids?

He probably needed a change in scenery as the Jags were wallowing in mediocrity to barely tolerable.....his best seasons were with Del Rio.

Knighton is playing better than he did in Jax too, no? Sensing a pattern

Knighton is playing out of his mind right now, and so is DRC. Both of these guys had "motivational" problems with their past teams. JDR is getting the most out of both of them.

I expect Mincey to be a good contributor in whatever role he is put in, which may be setting the edge. In other words, he may be an Ayers type which may not be a bad thing when playing a team like the chargers.

I don't know if he is a pass rushing kind of guy, but he could be adequate in getting pressure. But whatever the role, I expect that JDR will get the most out it. I have no doubt that he hand picked him because he knows what he is getting out of him.

I went back and checked the snap counts for the Houston and raider games. Mincey was signed Dec 17, I believe, so his 1st game would be the Texans game. He had 27 total snaps with 16 against the run and 11 rushing the passer.

That's significant production for a guy just signed. As I said in my post above, I think it really helps that JDR knows him well, and apparently, he knows this system well.

In the raider game, he had 32 snaps. That's pretty significant for the new guy, IMO. What surprised me is that in this game, only 5 was against the run, while 25 was rushing the passer; and 1 in coverage.

I thought he might be a contain type of DE, but his lopsided 25 of 32 snaps rushing the passer might suggest otherwise. Maybe he is going to be the pass rush specialist in the playoffs? Who knows, but I like it that he is being used significantly so soon, and more than just a token body because of injury.

Nice analysis. Isn't that more than you can hope for? A new player coming in and getting snaps. I think that's excellent.

The Raider snao count can probably be attributed to the QB we were playing. How many "Pass" downs actually become running downs, and the defense needed to play contain no matter the situation to avoid long scrambles.

Yes true, and not to mention that most of the game was slop, so anything can happen.
