The problem I have is that there's this perception that the players are better off sitting out than playing because the greedy owners are taking advantage of them. There seems to be a lack of common sense that owners are going to have cash flow problems with no ticket sales, no parking, no concessions, limited merchandising.

Despite that fact, the players can still negotiate deferred salaries for the entire amount they feel they're owed, and use their leverage to help out their situation in the long run. It's not a doom and gloom situation. Just let the bargaining process play itself out.

True but you are talking about sniping in the media and that always turns ugly and purports to represent the larger amount of players.

                          • Players are not going to keep giving up money for major leaguers. They'll sacrifice draft picks and their salary all day but not ML.

The union is worried about setting bad precedent for a future deal by giving away too much, and I understand that. Tony Clark and the players have taken their lumps since the last agreed upon CBA.

Still, everyone is going to lose in the long run if they don't play.

MLBPA needs to stay focused on a submitting a counter offer. The foolish thing would be to get offended and walk away.
