  • In beating Chiefs Broncos re-establish top status

There in the Broncos' locker room, chatting with his father at his locker, was the most frightening sight in the NFL: Peyton Manning, standing up.

That was all the Broncos needed against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night. It may be enough to help the Broncos win their third Super Bowl and Manning his second. The Chiefs entered the game with the best record in the NFL. They left as the second-best team in their own division. The Broncos' 27-17 win over the Chiefs was not a blowout, but it was a methodical dismantling. Denver simply numbed Kansas City into a nap.

And if the Chiefs are discouraged, they ought to stop reading.

    Now.

"We can play better," Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas said. "We're glad that we won, but we can play a lot better."

Yes, they can. Yes, Manning can. Manning looked a little shaky planting on
his sprained right ankle early in the game, but Manning with no ankles is better than Alex Smith with two...

Demaryius and Manning need to get their connection together. 5 completions out of 13 targets is garbage.

But it's days like yesterday that you wish he grabbed 10 of them and went hammer for 200+ on those turds.

This is rather common with 1 WR's...QB's will often just chuck it their way when they can't go anywhere else. Not saying that's what happened last night...

For example Calvin Johnson has 59 receptionson 109 targets.

DT and Peyton's season rec/target ratio is actually good in comparison to other QB/WRs.

I think it's good that they made an emphasis on getting DT more involved over the bye week.

And Chiefs do have a good defense regardless of what you're reading on the omane.

They won, they lead from start to finish, and basically made the chefs look not quite ready for prime time.

And Manning left the game as healthy as he entered it. Against a stout D, I'm satisfied.

A tale of two franchises and fan bases.

One wins the game and says they can do better.

The other loses the game and says they played a great game.

I've not seen one person here say that they don't have a 'good' defense. You just made that **** up. What people are saying is they're not an 'elite' defense. Big difference.

Because we play the Chefs again in 2 weeks, I'm kinda glad we didn't run up the score last night. I mean, they'd have to be totally blind or in denial to believe that we couldn't have scored more points if that had been the primary aim rather than just eating up the clock and "coasting" on a 3-score lead. The conservative game plan still resulted in the "W" for us without rubbing salt in their wound, which could give them extra motivation for the rematch.

I may have caught the omane virus in my own right.

ehhh there has been a few posts that have insinuated Chiefs are an average defense and only have the stats because of the teams/QBs they've played.

I'd say they're a very good defense... something many on here don't believe.

KC has a very good D. We have an elite O. They have (being nice) an average O. We have a good D.

                          This is why we won.
