He's been better this year, yes. But it won't surprise me if Darnold, who is only 21, ends up being the better player.

It’ll surprise me. Mayfield was head and shoulders better in college, he’s better as a rookie, and he’ll probably be better throughout his NFL career. That doesn’t mean Darnold won’t be good. Mayfield is just going to be the best in the league most likely.

Why would positional value enter into ROY? It's the best rookie, not the most valuable.

I would still go Saquon as he has had a a rare season with 1198 yards and 87 receptions for 688 yards - 14 total TD's. That's exceptional for a non-rookie.

Why? It's perception. Mayfield being really good has had far more impact on the Browns than Barkley being really good has had on the Giants. So the tide has shifted from Barkley being the obvious choice to... maybe not. Not hard to understand or figure out, really.

It's not a "most valuable rookie" or "correct pick" award. It's the best rookie.

Barkley has had a superlative year by any standard - historic even. Mayfield has had a good year for a rookie QB but it still is about the 15th or so best QB season this year.

I guess if you are grading on the curve then QB is harder to play but, once again, that is not the award.

It seems the tweet you quoted conflated a lot of thing that did not belong together like ROY, positional value and "the right pick" (while tossing in Darnold)

you make a good argument for most VALUABLE rookie.
baker has done more for his team than barkley.
Not sure thats how the voters will look at it, but regardless both are great aquisitions for their teams and I dont think either is the wrong choice.

All Lamar Jackson has done is play error free football for the only team in the playoff hunt. The pressure Lamar is under is 100x more than the other guys who if they get a win is happy if they lose still happy
