They bumped a guy who has never taken a meaningful snap in a real NFL game to backup QB after a couple weeks of TC and 2 preseason games, what else do you want?

Isn't one of the main purposes of the entire preseason process to figure out where you want guys? Kelly is starting week 1 as the backup QB

It seems as if in this case, preseason worked pretty much how you would want it too.

Looking at that first depth chart, there wasn't a lot of movement at all. Most of the guys on the back end are gone. Lindsey made a big jump while Henderson fell off. Obviously Kelly moved up.

I believe somebody posted last year's first depth chart and it was nearly the same as the final depth chart. So next year when the first depth chart comes out, lets make a big deal out of it. lol

No one in that situation has ever called their kid "JJ" either.

Why would you name your kid "Joe" if his last name is Jones BTW?

Just like I figured it would be these players(talking starters not depth).

    Renck has the same starters.

It doesn't sound like any of the running backs have separated themselves.
Sounds like Booker has, but in a bad way. Still the starter though...

Where is going to move to? The top four slots are set, and after that, whether it's 5 or 6 we carry, the last one MUST be a punt return guy. Whoever wins the PR battle wins the spot, no matter what the other guy does on offense. The #5 WR isn't going to see the field on offense unless the game has already been decided, or perhaps in some rare circumstance when we might go with 5 wides like a hail mary pass. Sunshine is still out there also...I think they're going to hold a spot in the back of their minds for him, even if he's not on the opening day roster, especially since they also like his PR abilities. It comes down to whether McKenzie shows he's put last season behind him or not IMO.

There's another guy at that OLB spot BTW, that bears watching as well, and it's Antonio Simmons, #69, a UDFA from Georgia Tech, who didn't have huge stats in college but showed some flashes as a pass rusher, beating his man often but seemed to have a problem finishing with a tackle. What makes him interesting is he's an athletic freak, 6'3", 250 and to go along with 30 BP reps he also ran a 4.48 forty at his pro day...that would have put him #1 at the combine for the position. He was also a Parade Magazine HS All American who had 29 sacks in high school...in just his senior year. He might be a diamond in the rough. His name has been popping up fairly regularly in camp reports as well. He's got a good shot at the PS I would think if he shows anything in the games.
Yes, he is consistently flashing in my notes. Getting pressures, dropping into the correct area of the zone or keeping his gap integrity. But like you say he's not finishing the play with a tackle. I think we're going to see him in the pre-season games. Lets see how he reacts to the big lights.

    That's what games are for.

Didn't they mention a couple days ago that all the RB's and QB's would be getting some first team reps soon? I seem to remember seeing that.

I wouldn't make the assumption that he's going to remain 3rd string. None of these depth charts mean much now. From what I saw last preseason, I think he will be #2 soon.
