Unfortunately for Turley, it's very difficult to turn to partisan extremists in Congress to cure us of the imperial presidency which, like he says, has been constructed over a period of many years and presidents. When Bush was doing it, it was okay. Now that Obama's doing it, it's not (or the opposite depending on your partisanship). But Obama has made it worse and who knows how far the next president will stretch it? The sad thing is that Turley is right, but our present Congress is not capable of doing anything about it without turning such reform into a partisan freak show. Could you imagine Issa in charge of this?

Of course, the rabid partisanship in Congress and the Right's absolute refusal to compromise is what is driving Obama more in this direction. Our government is entirely dysfunctional. Like Washington said, the operating principle of our form of government is "accommodation." When you have people who absolutely refuse to accommodate under any circumstances... On the other hand, if Obama was to be a truly Madisonian president, he would accept Congress' shutting him down and just sit and do nothing until Congress decided to do it's job, which it has no intention of doing. Stalemate all around.
