  • Israel starts offensive in Gaza

    http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/07...rgets-in-gaza/

Israelli Army spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner told The Associated Press that the military attacked four houses belonging to militants, as well as concealed rocket launchers and other sites. Most of the sites were targeted in airstrikes, and three were attacked from the sea.

Lerner says the army will gradually increase attacks on Gaza, and is recruiting reservists for a potential ground invasion.

Like Obama didn't have enough to worry about.

    Jews for Justice in Palestine
"Racism And Colonialism Are Not Jewish Values"

    By Ben Lorber
The following speech was given by Jews for Justice in Palestine, a Chicago-based collective working in solidarity with Palestinians in their struggle against Israeli occupation, at an emergency protest on Saturday. The demonstration was held to protest Israeli escalation in the West Bank and Gaza and the international media’s biased reporting on the events on the ground.
July 07, 2014 "ICH" - Salaam Alaikum. Thank you for inviting Jews for Justice in Palestine to speak. We are honored to stand with the Palestinian community and to join protests the world over on this solemn day.

Occupation and apartheid are not Jewish values. Collective punishment is not a Jewish value. Racism and colonialism are not Jewish values. Strengthening U.S. imperialism is not a Jewish thing to do. As Jews we say ‘No More!’ to the racist Israelis who take to the streets of Jerusalem chanting ‘death to Arabs’; we say ‘No More!’ to Netanyahu’s calls for revenge; we say ‘No More!’ to the cold-hearted murder of Palestinian youth; we say ‘No More!’ to the Israeli army’s home demolitions, raids, mass imprisonment, detention of youth, and murder of Palestinians in the West Bank. We say ‘No More!’ to the brutal shelling of Gaza. We say ‘No More!’ to the crackdown in East Jerusalem. We say ‘No More!’ to the racism, apartheid, and occupation being committed by the Israeli state in our name.

We stand with Palestinians suffering under Israeli occupation and with everyone else suffering under American imperialism the world over. May people of all faiths, races and creeds unite to build a world of justice and peace.

Our people did not suffer oppression and exile for centuries so that we could turn around and become the oppressors of another people.

I'm sure Obama's phone call asking for restraint will be something foreign policy experts point to for years as being badassary.

I just received this email from Adam Keller, an Israeli peace activist. MHG

Stop the Killing, End the Occupation!

We will not remain quiet as the bombs are falling!

                    Wednesday July 9th at 18:00
                    Habima Square, Tel Aviv

In the past month, Israel raided several thousand homes, and arrested over 600 Palestinians, including women and children.

Also in the last few weeks, everyday forms of racism and violence, by the state and its officials, have escalated exponentially.

Thousands of hate-filled Israeli citizens poured into the streets, seeking revenge, destruction and violence.

Ongoing occupation, daily oppression, house demolitions, destruction of lives.

The Israeli government is relentless - demolishing in Hebron, expropriating lands in the Naqab / Negev, brutally suppressing popular protests, attacking Gaza.

Once again, Israel launched yet another irresponsible and unnecessary military 'operation,' at the expense of the residents of the south, who, together with Gazans, deserve to live in dignity, without constant and daily threats.

Bombardments and casualties lead nowhere, except for further bombings, rockets and blood. Stop militarism, end the occupation!

For Republicans, unquestioning backing for the Jewish state is a reflection of the strong support among conservative American evangelical Christians for Israel — rather than a political move to steal away votes from American Jews, who continue to uniformly sway Democratic. But even among American Jews, new cracks are visible. Support for Israel’s policies vis-à-vis the Palestinians is exceedingly low; fewer than half of American Jews see Israel as sincere in its desire to make peace. Among younger, secular Jews, support for Israel as an essential element of their Jewish identity is far less than that among older and religious Jews. It’s a reflection of the growing and pervasive generational divide in the community …

As Israel becomes more nationalistic, more religious, and more defensive in its attitudes toward the occupation, it is hard to see an increasingly secular, liberal, American Jewish community responding with unqualified backing. And for national Democrats, the need to be seen as a steadfast ally of Israel may no longer be so politically important.
