You can't make this stuff up.............

HS Students Say Pledge In Arabic: ‘One Nation Under Allah’

The principal at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colorado, is facing a hailstorm of criticism from some very angry parents and residents.

The school recites the Pledge of Allegiance weekly, on Mondays. Last Monday, a member of their “Cultural Arms Club” led the student body in an Arabic version of the pledge, replacing the words “under God” with “under Allah.”

Principal Tom Lopez denies any attempt to push an Islamic agenda, saying, “These students love this country. They were not being un-American in trying to do this. They believed they were accentuating the meaning of the words as spoken regularly in English.”

Principal Lopez doesn’t make any sense. Speaking unintelligible words in Arabic in some way accentuates their meaning? That is an extremely weak argument in defense of an ill-advised decision.

He said the cultural clubs seeks to “destroy the barriers, embrace the cultures” that exist within the high school.

      Don't get the angst.

Allah is Arabic for God, what are they upset about, that another language was used?

Bull**** you don't change the pledge of allegience or the national anthem without taking some heat. Some things don't need progressives.

There is a place for progressives but why screw with things like the pledge?

Because the students wanted to? Really why does this matter.

          The pledge is creepy anyway.

You don't think that having children recite a pledge that they probably don't really understand every single morning is creepy? Why do they need to recite an oath everyday? Are they going to defect? Give away state secrets? No, it's just indoctrination and I find indoctrination creepy in every instance.

English is not the official language, so why all the hostility? The pledge wasn't changed, it was spoken in Arabic.

I'm going to guess that the pledge has been read previously in Spanish, so what's the issue here??

Trolling. The worst part was the inclusion of "under God" inserted into it to ram it down everyone's throats. American Taliban at work.

Hey Pony, allah just means 'god' in Arabic. Even if you're an Arabic speaking Christian, you still say allah.

Christians and muslims believe in the same god. All the stories in the quran are the same as the bible. Only difference is muslims don't think jesus is the son of god, phrophet just like other prophets (Buddha, John the Baptist, Muhammed, etc.), messengers of god.

Islam teaches muslims, Christians, and Jews are all brothers. They are just against occupation. Time to come together and fight off oppression from all sides.

How would the teachers and students even know what was being said? I doubt many speak arabic.

Why does everybody get so offended over cultural differences? Put a Nativity Scene in a public place and it offends liberals. Teach Arabic and it offends conservatives.

Regarding your first two paragraphs: While I don't really think there is much to fuss over, this is not technically true. There are several sects of Islam that it is illegal to equate Muslim usage of Allah with Christian usage of God. Malaysia for instance has a law that says it is illegal to make the claim that Christians and Muslims believe in the same God.

With that said, I highly doubt a group of high schoolers knew that and they probably were just trying to be "worldly."

Just a "Knowledge is Power" moment.

Your last paragraph, on the other hand, is pure BS. A very sizable portion of Islam will not distinguish the difference between Judiasm and Israel so they will not call anyone that is Jewish a "brother." Also, it is still part of the Quran via many Jihads that they are required to expand and convert. No one likes being occupied but they would be doing the same thing that they have been doing since the rise of the caliphates if we weren't there. It just wouldn't make our news cycles. Thanks to the Imams that matter, Islam has never grown out of the forced conversion stage that the other mainstream religions have.

Good point, let's make English the official language so less people will have cause to complain over something this small.
