Weld should have known better than to say that. Treason is a hard crime to commit, and a hard one to convict a defendant of.

U.S. Constitution, Article III, Section 3
[1] Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court. [2] The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted.

      And the crime itself:

18 U.S. Code § 2381 - TreasonWhoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

Inapplicable to: Trump Biden Obama Clinton, or Daffy Duck. Although maybe works for the American soldier who join the Taliban.

had no idea donny would be so serendipidous in his public response to a whistleblower protected by federal law.

Isn't it delightful, that when our POTUS wants to defend himself from felony alligations, he commits a felony in doing so !

Only a handful of US citizens have ever been hanged for treason. The last one was William Bruce Mumford in 1862 for tearing down a US flag during the civil war.

Several citizens were convicted of treason during and after WW II, most were sentenced to life. All were eventually pardoned and released. The last person pardoned was Iva Toguri D'Aquino, a.k.a. "Tokyo Rose", pardoned in 1975 by Gerald Ford.

Although Trump can't be charged with treason, because we are technically not in a declared war, his speech may rise to the definition of sedition before this is all over.

Sedition: Conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of their government.

If he were, say, impeached and convicted in the Senate, and rather that admitting the reality that he was no longer POTUS, he started tweeting to his twits to take to the streets - that would be clear cut sedition.

And because he would no longer be POTUS, he could be immediately charged as a private citizen and perp walked out of the White House.

I heard it was treason to keep rooting for the Broncos to win when Aga wants them to tank.

IQ33 was born in the wrong place: he’s the perfect North Korean.

Dude’s blind loyalty to Dick Tater would make Kim green with envy.
