  • US most violent western nation - by wide margin

Given the reactionary attitudes so prevalent here, I was not surprised by this latest survey of 17 western nations.

We lead the western world in deaths by violence.

The US also ranks last in health in a survey of 17 nations. MHG

Mexico must be a third world country. And it's amazing that with no border enforcement from said violent third world country along the south, a pointless drug war, and minimal punishment for violent crimes outside of capital murder proven beyond a reasonable doubt to a jury of high-functioning retards that the violent crime mortality isn't higher.

The survey spotlights 'affluent' nations, not 'western,'but Gaff can't help himself, accuracy is not one of his virtues.

UK is violent crime capital of Europe

The United Kingdom is the violent crime capital of Europe and has one of the highest rates of violence in the world, worse even than America, according to new research.

Analysis of figures from the European Commission showed a 77 per cent increase in murders, robberies, assaults and sexual offences in the UK since Labour came to power.

The total number of violent offences recorded compared to population is higher than any other country in Europe, as well as America, Canada, Australia and South Africa.

            ------------------------------------------------------

If you're topping South Africa, you're seriously screwed.

Makes a nice sensational headline from 2009.
However, whenever the opposition party compiles the data, just before an election year, you have to look closer. Both parties like to use crime stats as a political football.

A breakdown of the statistics, which were compiled into league tables by the Conservatives,
revealed that violent crime in the UK had increased from 652,974 offences in 1998 to more than 1.15 million crimes in 2007.
Research how the UK reports 'violent' crime. The criteria used is very different from the EU and the US.
But both countries are too violent, no matter how the data is manipulated.

Fact-Checking Ben Swann: Is the UK really 5 times more violent than the US?
“In the UK there are 2,034 violent crimes per 100,000 people. …The US has a violent crime rate of 466 [violent] crimes per 100,000 residents.”

Besides the misleading data Swann used, it’s interesting to note the statistics he didn’t give you. For instance, Swann correctly pointed out that it is no surprise the UK has fewer shooting deaths than the US, since handguns are almost totally banned. But he neglects to mention that Britain doesn’t just have fewer gun-related homicides–it has a dramatically lower murder rate all around. In 2010, the US had an average murder rate of 4.8 murders per 100,000 people–4 times higher than the UK’s rate of 1.2 per 100,000, and, coincidentally, the exact opposite of the impression that Swann gives viewers.

The British Home Office, by contrast, has a substantially different definition of violent crime. The British definition includes all “crimes against the person,”
including simple assaults, all robberies, and all “sexual offenses,” as opposed to the FBI, which only counts aggravated assaults and “forcible rapes.”
But of the 871,000 crimes against the person, less than half (401,000) involved any actual injury.
The remainder were mostly crimes like simple assault without injury, harassment, “possession of an article with a blade or point,” and causing “public fear, alarm, or distress.”
And of the 54,000 sexual offenses, only a quarter (15,000) were rapes.
This makes it abundantly clear that the naive comparison of crime rates either wildly overstates the amount of violence in the UK or wildly understates it in the US.

Violent crime in the UK has been in decline since 1995

And it’s also worth noting that while Swann implied that the UK is more violent than the US because of its handgun ban,
violent crime has been declining in Britain since the mid-1990s, and it continued to do so without interruption after the 1997
              Firearms Amendment went into effect.

Countries all report stuff different so it's hard to compare. No doubt though we have way too much violence. The problem is we let criminals carry guns and citizens be the fodder.

For instance when it comes to infant mortality is hard to compare because America reports any baby that lives for even a few minutes as having lived. So if it dies it counts as an infant death. While other countries would call that a still birth.

maybe you should call your local congressman and tell him to support stricter/better BG checks.

Yet -- you have remained silent on the issue -- and therefore by your silence indicate your approval that Israel is stealing oil from the Palestinian West Bank.

They are drilling for oil on Arab land.

Not a word here in protest.

Let me guess, you don't celebrate Thanksgiving because of the genocide of the indigenous people of North America, right?
