I still think we fired Shanahan right as we were on the cusp of becoming a great, consistently playoff-bound team.

Thanks for reminding me.

Let me re-remind you. Denver was 3 games up in the division with 3 games left to play, win1 game and we take the division.

A Shannahan lead Denver Broncos team lost 3 in a row to go 8-8 and miss the playoffs.

Please now remind me of the "Cusp" I have forgotten about.

Watching Orton literally crumble when there is a hint of pressure is unsightly.

What's even more painful is the that I think a bag of bricks would be able to move around better than he does.... THe guy is slow as molasses.

It's way too painful.

We had:

Young, talented QB.
Young, talented WR corps.
Young, very talented left-tackle.
We could put a cell-phone hawker in at running-back and get 100-yards.

If you notice, these are all young players. Not a whole lot of veterancy at the time. The defense was also trash and Shanahan did have Slowik returning at the time which may have been the final nail in the coffin for him. Sure, Shanahan wasn't fired on a high-note, but I'm hardpressed to come to any kind of conclusion that says that team had already reached its ceiling when he left. I think there was enormous potential in having so much talent at such young ages all over the field. Of course we will never know now as McDaniels irrationally blew the entire thing up and we are left with what we have now.

As bad as any decision McD made. I love shanny, but that decision is inexcusable.

The way Oakland was cheating the ends, Jake would have made rape on them with the bootleg.

Totally agree. I think the problem was that Shanny had already fired so many coordinators in a row he was afraid to do it again, although that time it really did call for it. All that said, I'm still convinced it was a talented, young team ready to start going places in a division that was obviously getting weaker and weaker.

You forgot the part where we had half our team on IR and had a T-mobile salesperson at RB, dumbass.

I've missed Plummer since 2007.

Drafting Cutler over Ngata is the biggest mistake Shanahan ever made, even bigger than Slowik.

I think your analysis is spot on regarding the call to keep Slowik. We had the makings of half a good young team. The defense was historically bad in 2008. Worse than last year.
