Default God Bless Texas, 85 mph law passed

Highest speed limit in nation takes effect

If you feel the need for speed, better head south to Texas. The nation's highest speed limit, 85 miles per hour, has just taken effect.

Eighty-five miles per hour would be the highest posted speed limit in the United States and the second-highest posted speed limit in the world, according to the European auto rental firm Rhino Car Hire. A speed of 140 kilometers per hour, or about 86 mph, is posted on some motorways in Poland

Smart idea for a state that ranks only behind California in deadly traffic accidents.

Rednecks rejoice. I hope this negates any federal funding for roads and highways.

I know you aren't referring to me. A Prius would fit in the back of my Silverado.

I drive a Ford 3/4 ton diesel and I'm looking into to the diesel natural gas blending systems, it increases hp and doubles fuel mileage. We have two natural gas fueling stations in my home town but and I will be able to run on diesel alone if natural gas is not available.

According to the article most of the highways affected will be in West Texas - there is practically nothing out there and no pleasant scenery to take in, no reason to make people suffer at low speeds.

I do wonder if they'll have a low speed for big trucks though.
