HOF member Lee Roy Selmon died from complications resulting from a stroke he had on September 2, 2011, which left him hospitalized in extremely critical condition. He was said to be improving, however, two days after the stroke, Lee Roy Selmon passed away at the age of 56.
I wached Lee Roy while he played at OU and followed his career at Tampa and I don't think anyone played the game better that Lee Roy Selmon, may he rest in peace. |

He was awesome back in the day. Enjoyed watching him at his best. Did not see him play for OU but lots and lots of games for the Bucs. RIP Bud

Barry Switzer said Lee Roy was the best player to ever wear an OU uniform and Lee Roy's two brothers Lucious and Dewey both played on the University of Oklahoma defensive line in 1972. They were from a small town in Oklahoma (Eufaula) population around 2000. Eufaula was also the home of JC Watts and just a few miles down the road from Troy Aikmans home town.

Why are so many of these guys from the 70s dying so young, especially with ex-Steelers?

Now that the NFL is the biggest business in sports with average guys making millions of $$$...the teams have put in checks and balances where they can basically control a player's life thru their contract...no motorcycle riding, no pick-up flag football or basketball games....no smoking...etc. |
