In one of the most disturbing youth sports incidents in recent years, coaches of a Sarasota, Florida youth football team instigated a brawl with a referee which eventually led to both the coaching staff and a player violently attacking the referee in question during a massive brawl which embroiled both teams.
As reported by Sarasota Patch, quickly followed by a variety of Tampa Bay news outlets, details of the incident were first gleaned from an amateur video of a game involving the Sarasota Gators and North Port Huskies on Saturday. The video in question was eventually turned over to the Sarasota Sheriff's office, which has since opened up a full criminal investigation into the proceedings from the game. While it's unknown whether charges will be filed against the coaches and player who attacked the referee, battery against a game official is classified as a felony in the state of Florida. http://rivals.yahoo.com/highschool/b...hschool-wp5326 What the hell is wrong with these idiots-it's a Game, people! |

Yeah the kid should be charged so he can serve community service. The coach perma-fired and the program should be nixed. I'd bring the ban hammer down on everyone.

Sign of the times. As we shift into a new era of conscienceness the violence will escalate for a time but as we people shift things will get better, much better.

Can't I just spray the zombies with BBQ sauce and ring the dinner bell so they cannibalize most of each other?

How big of a story would this be if the players and coaches were white and the ref was black?

Looked like a race riot out there. Reginald Denny vs. "Football" Williams. Why does this seem to happen always in Florida and youth football games?
I must say that #5 made a great full speed tackle on the ref. Too bad it was an official and #5 was a Dad and not a player. He would have had major potential. That team should not be able to play until all those in the fight are gone and never see the field again. |

Generations of a culture that celebrates misogyny the abandonment of fatherhood. This is what that looks like.

I dont talk to refs when I coach. Its pointless, I know 10 times what they do. If they do well I say great job, but overall they suck in the AYL so bad.
My OL is gonna dominate tommorow I cant fn wait!!! My 13 yr olds have ol calls, protection slides, double teams like crazy. Wooooooo!!!!! |

I'd bet anything that if you surveyed those involved, every last one of them would say they watched Ghostbusters at some point in their childhood - every last one of them!
Seriously, though - how incredibly disgraceful! I love coaching youth sports (regardless of the sport) because it is filled with teaching opportunities. You win, you teach. You lose, you teach. A ref/umpire makes a bad call, you teach. The negative moments provide far more teaching opportunities than the positive ones. Life isn't always fair. Kids need to learn how to react when they've been dealt a bad hand, because it will happen a lot in life. These imbeciles have done such a disservice to these kids. |

I love how at about 1:30, the lady comes, grabs her man, and gets out of Dodge. I bet she saved him a lot of trouble, when all is said and done.

Color aside, youth sports is filled with High School Harry coaches doing it to relive their own past glories and taking every perceived slight as an invitation to fight. Coached against a whole staff of them last week. They yell loudest and act toughest when they are down 28-6.
Basically, coaches need to remember that this game is for kids and about the kids. Not about them. No one gives a **** what your pop warner coaching record is and it is relevant to nothing. Go teach the kids, have fun, do your best to win but do so with class. The same message pertains to life; Hey kids, work your butt off, focus on the goal, make no excuses and show class and you'll probably turn out ok. |
