Default Projector tv for the house Pro's vs Con's

So I was on cragslist again, stupid, stupid me. Anyways I found a Projector that MSRP on new is 6,999.00 for 300 bucks. I ask if it would burn me and the old man laughed and said that he had bought it for his grand kids and they are no longer there and he just does not use it. He must be like 70ish so I'll buy that. Said he was just looking to get some of his money back.

Anyway I said sold and bought it but I can't hook it up in the new home until we move in on the first. Here is the projector. VisionMax HD-2K HD Ready HDMI Projector.

Have any of you used this kind ? How will the games look ?? Oh and I didn't tell the wife so I could use any good info I can.

Thanks
JC

1. Your room has to be dark.
2. Be prepared for HUGE vaginas if you're watching porn. Also, it's not very discreet.
3. Who knows how long the bulb will last you... that could cost you a few more hundred bucks.
4. I don't know this specific model. Let us know.

I think you need a very dark room to get a good picture with a projector. But for $300, what the hell.

As far as general projector comments go, I had one at our previous house, and it was pretty sweet. You really need a room that you can make very dark if you want to watch during daylight hours. You can get a really big screen for the money though. You should probably expect to pay around $1000 for a entry to mid level projector.

This site has some good stuff:

I've had a projector for about 6 years and love it.

The $300.00 thing is a scam however, hope you didn't commit to purchase.

I spent about 3 grand, but that runs a 2000 lumen projector on a 92" da-lite high contrast grey screen (keep the screen smaller so the image really pops). Projectors are awesome, but about every 2-3 years I have to spring for a new bulb (about 200 bucks). HD programming, games, and blu-ray are just amazing.

My brother is into that kinda stuff the picture is awesome hes built his own theater 150" screen with vintage cerwin vega front speakers and rear and a 2000 watt sub woofer under a raiser with the theater recliners are on top of those .

He finds older stuff that sold for big dollars only a few years ago with the same perks i will ask him what brands to look for he has done this as a hobby for years buys and sells vintage tube equipment he also builds from scratch.

Seriously man, these things are junk. They are not HD, they are "HD compatible", which means that they can take a HD input. The screen resolution will not be HD. Did you notice that there are no specifications on the website that you linked? If you want to buy something used, find a real brand (optoma, benQ, epson, panasonic, sony) that has some real reviews.

www.squidoo.com is a hosting site that allows anyone to put up a webpage. That review that you linked is BS. Google around on this projector, and you will see tons of scam warnings.

Let this one go. It is not a good deal. You can do better.

No worries man. Craigslist is a double edged sword, it is a great way to buy and sell stuff, but there are a lot of scammers lurking, both buying and selling stuff. If it seems a little weird, it probably is.

You can get a good 720P projector for less than a grand. You need to be able to control light in the room though. You also need a sound source and Signal source. I've had one for over 6 years in the game room along with a flat panel in the rear of the room and it's pretty awesome on Sunday.

About 15 years ago, my roommate bought some of the speakers out of a white van. He thought it was a great deal until we opened them up and saw the tiny magnets on the 12" woofers. They weren't bad sounding, just not worth the money he paid. They sounded like my small $50 bookshelf speakers.

Glad the scam was averted, but some general thoughts on projectors. There is NO better way to watch a game, movie or HD TV than on an HD projector.

My main TV is a 720p Infocus projector on a 118" Carada screen. It was a $3k projector when I got it, but that was probably four or five years ago.

As to light, if you have a fairly bright projector, you don't need a completely dark room in terms of inside lights, but you do need to be able to eliminate nearly all sunlight, because the sun has a **** load of lumens.

Watching Alphas on it as I type this with a ceiling fan light on and a table lamp on next to my wife's side of the couch.

Biggest downside of it being the main TV is that I replace the bulb every 13 to 15 months.

Twas a good scam too. So here is the deal. I figured I had already made plans for the guys to meet me at my shop. So I got my pry bar polished up and was ready to see what damage a 300 pound man can do to someones knee when I used it. I will add my Tech's were really hoping it would not work.

So he shows up and advertised looks great, little old man probably 65 ish. We plug it in and it turns on. Really bright fuss with nothing plugged in. So I plug my HDMI into it and still fuzz. The old man was puzzled. I am a pretty good read of people so I think he was for real. So out of morbid curiosity I plug it into my RCA cables and boom it works fine. The picture was pretty good really but not HDMI. I really think that this guy was taken. No doubt a scam like it said but I don't think he knew any better himself.

Moral to the story always post on the mane. I figure someday someone on here will invent the cure to aids, cancer and world starvation.

Thanks again for bailing my ass out.

I wondered if it wasn't a second hand scam. Hope the old guy didn't get soaked too badly.

I stopped reading after this. With today's projectors you don't need a very dark room. You would need a dark room for a theatre type experience; however, you would still be able to view the projector with sunlight (just not direct).

I'm going projector in the next couple months and have been researching heavily. I'd recommend signing up and searching the AVS forums: http://www.avsforum.com/. Tons of great info on EVERYTHING regarding home theatre.

Agreed. I've been a member of avsforum since 2001 or so. It's the best resource out there for home theater related stuff. From researching equipment, to setup info, to DIY projects like building your own screen. Great site.
