There's talk that the broncos may get phili Merling and/or Starks for Orton.

Not ideal, but I'll take a player for a salary cut.

UPDATE: Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post names Phillp Merling and Randy Starks as potential bargaining chips in a trade.
---
UPDATE: Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post suggests that if Kyle Orton is traded to the Miami Dolphins, the Denver Broncos may get a player or two in return instead of a draft pick. Volin points out that Denver needs defensive linemen, and the Dolphins are stacked at that position.
One monkeywrench in that plan: The Dolphins run a 3-4, and the Broncos are looking to transition to a 4-3.

I would bring in VY for a look if the price is right, possibly to unseat Quinn or to be a #3 guy, if he's willing.

Starks is pretty good.

From wiki:

Quote:
On May 24, 2009, Starks was arrested by police for running into a police officer with a Freightliner truck on Ocean Drive in South Beach, Miami. The truck left the scene after, but it was stopped by police a block later. Starks faces charges of aggravated battery.
Chris Andersen drives a freightliner... why?

Starks played in the 4-3 his first 4 seasons with the Titans. That'd be a great pickup.

Merling is just a body...we'd need at least a 4th to go along with him.

This is interesting. Starks can play, especially in a 4-3 alignment. Chances are we would get a lot more production out of him, than a 3 or 4th round draft pick.

Per rotoworld: According to Football Outsiders, Dolphins DL Randy Starks made a "stop" on a team-high 92 percent of his plays last season.

A stop is defined as "45 percent of needed yards on first down, 60 percent on second down or 100 percent on third down." Starks' counting stats dropped off in 2010, but he still played well enough to earn a trip to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. With Jared Odrick now healthy, the Dolphins should pick up where they left off in the final two months as one of the toughest run defenses in the NFL.

He was a pro bowler? Wow. I can't imagine actually having a pro bowler at Defensive Tackle in Denver. It's almost inconceivable.

Starks would be a really nice addition.

Which means we'll doubtlessly get Merling, if one of them is involved.

Not sure, but I believe he was one of those Gus Frerrotte, nobody-else-wanted-to-go Pro Bowlers.

That would definitely be an upgrade over our current tackles, who more closely resemble CFL players than they do NFL pro-bowlers.

I'll take both. Thank You! Seriously.. either one would be an upgrade over what we have inside right now. Athletic pass rushers from the inside to add to the rotation. They have a bunch of 3-4 ends so missing those two won't kill them.

Starks would be an excellent piece to get. I'd still want Mebane, Franklin, etc. to give us two legit run stuffers to rotate and pair together on obvious downs. But then Starks plus Jenkins could be a nice three down pair.

If we got Starks in the trade: 1) I would be estatic, and 2) I will kill my insider sources for feeding me a line of crap about a running back
