I just put together a new PC and need a new Video Card. Nothing too crazy since I don't game like I used to, but my old video card is not going to cut. I want to spend around $100. I don't have a preference between Nvidia and ATI (or whoever else.) Just want to get feedback on what everyone else has and what's recommended.

I THINK what I grabbed was the AMD Radeon HD 6800 series.
My buddy who follows the stuff much closer than I do advised to always go one gen behind the cutting edge tech and found me a great deal on Newegg along with a promo code. |

With the latest 6x AMD Radeon HD generation the numbers are actually boosted I believe. Basically the 6800 is the next step up from the 5700 series so if you want to hang back one generation 5700 is a pretty good one to shoot for. I have a 58xx, can't remember the exact number, and it runs everything with ease. If you have a good case for airflow you'll probably never even hear the thing as the sapphires seem pretty good at cooling themselves.

BY the way, I don't care about 3d even a little and it must have an HDMI output.

Get a Radeon 4890. Extremely fast.
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R4...All-Categories Make sure you have a good PSU though. Last edited by Bob's your Information Minister; 07-27-2011 at 10:52 AM.. |

Well what I was getting at is software like Maya and 3dsMax. That would make a difference but I couldn't figure out why you would care about it.

If you can't get built-in HDMI, there are good adapters.

Do they have a Micro Center or Fry's out there Kahn? If so I would go with whatever they have on sale. If your worried about noise you might want to look for the cheapest one with a heatsink instead of a fan.

Hey Kahn,
After you pickup your video Card can you swing by Dove Valley and hold it up behind the hot chick the NFLN has reporting on the Orton trade story so I can see it? Thanks, Steve |
