Honestly don't think we'd release Darcel McBath so fast. He's only been in the NFL for two years and has been injured most of it after having a great career in college. I see us dropping Renaldo Hill over him.

I think McBath AND Hill stay for now. McCarthy is one I see getting cut, though.

So, you want to get rid of our long snapper and our kicker in one fell swoop? We may just be kicking a lot of field goals this year, so that tandem will be pretty important. What happened to Prater?

There are also several junk receivers in that group. You would release/trade a very solid receiver like Gaffney, then keep a guy like Britt or Willis? If we go with Tebow, we need some real level-headed professionals to help him out. Gaffney has been a major asset for this team and I don't see why we would let him go or seek to trade him.

I also agree with the previous post about McBath over McCarthy. McBath can play, but not stay healthy. McCarthy can't play when he is healthy - he was just horrid last preseason, and I was incredibly surprised he made the team in any fashion.

In my book, the LB competition will be the most interesting story of our offseason. Fox obviously believes it was our biggest shortcoming last year. We now have a dozen guys fighting for those spots, and I hope that means we end up with three really solid starters.

I think everyone is safe until they start signing someone better at their respective position. So basically if we sign a safety, then McBath et al can start to worry.

Jabar Gaffney is our second-best WR (maybe third, if you count Eddie Royal in the slot). I don't see him going anywhere, for now...

The only knock on him is the 2.4 he is going to make this year. Not a huge sum but still 1 mill more then Lloyd.

Why would we cut White, he very well could be the best RB on the team and 2nd at worse. Doesn't make sense to me until we sign a FA

Why do we need to cut most of those guys to make room for guys that will about the same. The success of this franchise resides under center.

No Joe is definately no the Hillis of the defense...he is going to be far bigger...than Hillis could've been as a bronco...won't be on the cover of Madden, but will knock out another KC Chief this year....mark it down.

How many safetys will Broncos keep. With 2 rookies coming in it makes sense at least 2, maybe even 3 of those holdover safetys will be gone. I could see Bruton, Mcbath both hitting the road. Actually even Dawkins or Hill would not shock me.

i am doubtful we cut Mays and Haggan this early, simply because of the uncertainty of the MLB position.

Mays and Haggan aren't pro bowl players, but solid if unspectacular players who iif Irving is not ready now or is not a viable option at the MIKE could be of use. Also, Mays is a pretty damn good ST contributor, and with Woodyard being a FA(is he unrestricted or restricted?) we might need him to step up as a potential ST captain.

depends on how many Corners we keep. didn't McBath fill in a lot in the Nickle and Dime packages? his versaatility makes it hard to cut him.

Bruton is really good on ST but it is going to be year 3 and replacements were brought in so he may be one to go.

Dawkins is here 1 more year. his contract will be redone and he will be used as a help desk for our rookies.

Hill is probably gone. age and a 2nd round pick the team wants on the field spells the end for Hill in Denver.

McBath is hard to judge. on the one hand he was a somewhat premier Safety in college, and looks good when healthy, but the injury bug seems to hit him often(although often is hard 2 justify on a guy with 2 years in the NFL)

for me i say the immediate cuts are

David Bruton - S
Quinton Carter - S
Brian Dawkins - S
Chris Harris - S (*CFA signed)
Renaldo Hill - S
Darcel McBath -S
Kyle McCarthy - S
Rahim Moore - S
Nick Polk - S

McCarthy looked raw, but there were also flashes oif ability. because of that i think he gets the nod to at least attempt for a roster spot in TC, but is a bubble guy.

With the Corners i look at it as the following being cut

Champ Bailey - CB
Brandon Bing - CB (*CFA signed)
Perrish Cox - CB
Andre' Goodman - CB
Chevis Jackson - CB
Nate Jones - CB

James Rogers - CB (*CFA signed)
Syd'Quan Thompson - CB
Cassius Vaughn - CB

i know most say Perrish has got to go. however, i think it is in the best interest of the team to take a wait and see with his trial outcome approach.

if found guilty you can always cut him later. if innocent, regardless of his off field behavior he was an ok Corner for us last season and should get a shot to stick on the roster. can't cut every guy who has legal troubles or a nefarious past or just about half the league would be out of work.

BroncoMan4ever,
I'd expect at least one NB/FS vet (Hill, Chevis, Jones) through camp to teach noobs (Squid, Harris, McBath, Moore) and Dawkins to teach McCarthy, Carter and Bruton. I also think Goodman stays unless Vaughn, Rogers or Cox unseats him. After that, the Broncos will have a better idea if they can go with a youth movement in the secondary.

Couple trades around the league, but the ax has been pretty quiet thus far. That should change today with the FA signing period beginning. There's three guys I'm hoping Denver can pick up off the chopping block to address team weaknesses.
RB Steve Slaton / Texans ----- conciliatory: Jason Snelling / Falcons
RB Marion Barber / Cowboys
MLB Nick Barnett / Packers ----- conciliatory: Barrett Ruud / Bucs

*edit: Woodyard and Prater re-signed. I count 88players on the team, not counting D.Thomas
