Default Google Plus

there is a loophole allowing people to join. All I need to do is tag you in a post with your gmail address so if you'd like a google+ invite, just pm me your gmail addy

once your in, to invite others, just make a post and tag their gmail address and it should allow them to login too, to those of you that already received emails, let me know if it worked

make sure you are already signed into google, then go to http://plus.google.com on the right, it should be ready for you to enter the rest of your information so you can get going

Is this thing on a trial period or something? Why wouldn't they let people sign up?

Yes it is. They're in test phase, controlling the number of sign-ups so as for to not crash it.

And the method of the OP isn't surefire -- when Google closes the gates, it doesn't work. When they open, they open.

Or you just have someone use the invite button.

Isn't this similar to when gmail first started, it was like this super exclusive club that no one could join, but there were a few loopholes?

Easiest way. But it goes away sometimes. And if they've closed the gate, the person on the other end of the invite can't get in.

Can you go over this in more detail?

If it's not porn related, I'm not good with computers.

Yeah, like all of google's products that were initially invite only, just hype.

Where's that rolls eyes smiley.

Almost every Google product is invite only to start for a good testing base. Its how they beta test. As the bugs get worked out, and they feel its polished and ready for the masses, it goes global and free to everyone.

Gmail was invite only for like 2 years. Nothing hype about it, free POPing, and more storage than anyone else out there.

Google Plus has a way to go but there are features on it that are completely superior to facebook.

Sounds like Facebook is gonna clean their stuff up or have some good competition in the near future. Works for me but I don't do the Facebook thing enough to bother switching so hopefully it doesn't do to Facebook what Facebook did to Myspace.

It's still hype and marketing: WANT an invite??!?! They failed with google buzz. They NEED some press and some hype to compete with facebook.

Some times you fanboi's make me laugh.

I've got about 40 people that have made the switch already. Basically it's like facebook but with much better privacy options and a 12 person video chat feature called hangout. I'm not really grasping all of it at this point but I feel much better about putting pics up on this than I do on facebook. Both companies are monoliths but google has shown itself to have some principles while facebook seems a lot more cynical.

I got on this the Friday before last and so far I don't see anything that makes it superior to Facebook other than the Sparks function and the fact that if I'm logged in at all times I will be able to see when some activity has happened just by going to Google, which I do all the time. So I guess that's a big plus. I don't really care at all about the hangouts as I feel no real need to organize a bunch of my friends together on their webcams at the same time.
