Yes she did have a long and great life and stayed popular well after her leave from the White House.

She put her stamp on society. I can only strive to make half the impact that she made. That would be a good life, for me. RIP Mrs. Ford...

That's too bad.

She definitely helped a lot of people with her treatment center.

She was someone who not only talked about helping people, but actually did something to help unlike many people today involved in politics who like to tell others what to do and help others, but donīt ever lift a finger themselves. RIP.

Rest In Peace.

Wonderful woman who really put her money where her mouth was with regard to helping people with struggles she herself went through. Talked about having breast Cancer when you simply didn't talk about Cancer, and was open about her addiction after a family intervention in 1978 that ultimately led to her opening the Betty Ford Treatment Center.

It's funny how anytime an uncontroversial figure who did good things like Ford dies, she gets relatively few mentions... when a person like Jerry Falwell or Strom Thurmond dies, the thread blows up.

She was on the right side of history.

Actually, I would have hated it if the thread turned nasty and became political. I know this thread doesn't have many responses, but (in this case) that's a good thing...

Well that's what I'm saying - it's just a comment that people are more willing to say something bad about another than something nice.

Remember seeing the couple as a kid in Vail. Did a lot for that area. RIP.

Well... OK RIP B Ford Off the top of my head I don't remember much of your life but if above poster would have pointed out some of the highlights I would miss you more.

Come on on Smurf, if you want her to get some respect, lay it out for the lay man.

She was a first lady during a relatively quite time (which is a good thing) in the US Presidency.

Was a former alcoholic who used her fame to open up the Betty Ford Rehabilitation Clinic - her legacy will be the work she has done with recovering alcoholics.

I thought it was a pain pill addiction, and that her Betty Ford Clinic was for addictions of all stripes...

The clinic is for addiction of all types. I wasn't alive when Ford was Pres... but the way I understood it, Betty Ford was a recovered alcoholic.
