Default aid flotilla about to set sail for Gaza

Audacity of Hope and 9 other aid ships ready to depart from Athens

The aid flotilla representing 22 countries -- is presently in the port of Athens -- and is ready to set sail for Gaza.

What an amazing backdrop -- as the Greek people are also about to stage a general strike to protest the IMF bailout.

Check out this excellent report from Athens by Democracy Now!

Default armed Greek soldiers threaten flotilla

Friday 10 AM

I just received this email from Rabbi Alissa Wise, from Jewish Voice for Peace. Evidently, the US and Israel are trying to stop the flotilla from even leaving Greece.
MHG

Dear Mark,

Just an hour ago, I couldn't believe it when I heard that the US boat to Gaza had finally left port in Greece. But just a few minutes ago we learned they are not being granted passage out of Greek waters and they have issued an urgent call for our help THIS VERY MINUTE. Armed Greek soldiers are approaching the boat now as the passengers chant, afraid they are planning a raid.

Let our people go.

This is the traditional biblical cry of people fighting for freedom from slavery and oppression.

And it's exactly the message I want you to send now to the United States and the government of Greece, which is in this very moment preventing the remaining boats in the Gaza Flotilla from leaving port to break the illegal siege of Gaza.

Let our people go.

Our people are the 1.6 million Palestinian men, women and children who are virtual prisoners who cannot leave Gaza and who cannot get access to sufficient food, medical supplies and resources they need to live.

Our people are the Americans and internationals, including Jewish Voice for Peace members, who are risking their lives to show the world the injustice of the siege, and who bring a message of hope and solidarity to the Palestinians of Gaza.

You and I can't be there in Greece or Gaza right now, but we can stand with peace activists from all over the world, including and especially from Palestine, who have taken up the nonviolent struggle to end occupation and assert the full humanity of all people.

These modern-day Freedom Riders need our help right now. Please take a moment to send a letter now and then tell your friends to do the same.

They are facing extraordinary forces of opposition from the Israeli and US governments—and yet, we already have won by bringing the world's attention to the people of Gaza. But it's not over yet. They need your help. Now.

Let our people go: Let the ships sail. Break the siege of Gaza.

As I hope and pray for safe passage, I can't help but smile at the name of the U.S. boat: "The Audacity of Hope." There is audacity in hope. Moses had it when he made his case to Pharoah. And we have it when we act to bring about a future where all of us are free.

Audaciously,

Rabbi Alissa Wise, National Organizer
Jewish Voice for Peace

Use this link to send a letter to the US State department demanding that the aid flotilla to Gaza be allowed to leave port.

I could care less about any Muslims or Palestinians sorry. Don't have time for the BS and games. If they didn't also smuggle in tons of weapons maybe I would feel sorry for them. As it is props to the Greek Navy for not allowing an illegal armada into another countries territorial waters.

These people are so stupid. They will never make it to Gaza and will cry about being stopped, even though they were told what will happen. Oh well, Isreal doesn't play nice. They will get what they have coming, eventually.

I've really never cared about any country other then America. I want us to support Israel only because I feel we have most in common with them and it is in our interests. I only care about democracy for Americans and could care less what happens to the Palestinians.

There are at least 50 US citizens in the flotilla -- so from your statements you support Israel murdering US citizens who are trying to bring food and medicine to besieged refugees in Gaza.

Israel murdered 34 US sailors of the USS Liberty in 1967 in the waters off Gaza -- and obviously you don't give a **** about them either.

You don;t know what you believe in. You are just another knee jerk -- another confused American -- with no clue about history -- or anything else for that matter.

Israel supposedly set Gaza free back in 2002 -- so the flotilla to Gaza has nothing to do with Israel. Last year the Israelis intercepted the aid ships in international waters and murdered nine activists.

With US Congressmen now calling for Israel to attack the ships -- the stage is set for another bloody episode.

You guys who say the peace activists are asking for trouble do not understand the imperative necessity to talk truth to power. By your logic jesus should have vacated the Temple and run away when he saw the money changers conducting business in the house of G-d.

I assume that most of you pretend to be Christians.

Really it comes down to the fact -- that you are bunch of cowards and deadbeats.

The Liberty incident is known to me. I wasn't born yet though so it's sort of like reading about Vietnam. I don't really hate that country either.

Cut,

One of your big mistakes is thinking we live in a democracy. No we live in a plutocracy. A tiny group of rich and powerful men rule us. They give lip service to democracy but it's all for show. This fools many of the people -- apparently including you who are too young to have watched the long downhill slide...

I understand that rich people pull a lot of strings, just the way it has always been though. Hell at one point when country started didn't you have to own land to vote? The robber barons of the industrial age etc etc. I know, it sucks to not be rich and powerful, i get it. It's just life though and things aren't near as bad as you make it out. We live a good life in America and our lucky to be Americans. Sorry you don't feel the same way, that is your big mistake. You no longer love your country as far as I can tell. Everything about it you despise.

The seminal idea was that democracy is a fragile enterprise -- and must be protected through checks and balances - --

Most of the founding fathers opposed the creation of a private central bank -- such as the federal reserve.

They also opposed a standing army -- which is inimical to democracy.

These two institutions have helped bring about the destruction of checks and balances -- now gone. Power has been concentrated in the executive branch -- but in reality operates behind the scenes via the bankers -- who rule.

By controlling the money system they have come to control the government itself.

This is rule by a few -- not democracy. The issue is why you and many others identify with the US government under such a regime.

Government has become the instrument of the few -- and the enemy of the people.

And you sitting in your comfortable shed in the Oregon woods makes you a hero??

Gaffney, you're on a football board, why don't you go and do something to help your cause....preferably somewhere without internet access.

Or are YOU too much of a coward?? When were you last in Gaza?

Tombstone,

From your post you equate Palestinians with terrorists. Listen to yourself. You are the product of the propaganda system.

Mull over this: Something like 70% of the population of Gaza is under 20 years old. We are talking about a population of children --

You have been brainwashed to think children are terrorists. No they are just people.

Hamas is most certainly a military/terrorist force however you want to look at it. Israel must defend itself, we would do the same.

The flotilla captain was arrested in greece.

Hopefully the Greeks will do us all a favor and scuttle the ships.

I just did a quick search but don't know enough about the sites to know if they're reputable or not. I just thought I'd heard that in the past.
