Default Newt's presidential campaign implodes

By JEFF ZELENY and TRIP GABRIEL

WASHINGTON — Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign imploded on Thursday as his top advisers banded together and resigned, setting off a further exodus of aides and supporters and battering his hopes of a political comeback.

The guy raised around 52 million dollars in campaign cash. You really think he's a loser? As much as anyone, I would like to see him go back to writing his stupid little civil war books and maybe showing up on Vannity's show every nOw and then, but that's what it was all about. Raising money and throwing himself back into the spotlight, if only for a little while. I expect him to quit before the Iowa caucus.

His next move will Probably be to scandalize himself again to show everyone what a great patriot he is. Has to get clever though to top the congressman from New York.

Exactly spdirty nailed it. I have said it also. Newt never though he could be President. He saw a chance to raise a bunch of money. I'm not really sure how they use money they don't spend on campaign, i think they can give it to other politicians and pacs though right? Whatever but Gingrich always knew he would not only not be President, but not even a serious contender for the nomination.

The scary thing is that this all but guarantees that Perry will now be running because I bet some of Gingrich's staff will now be Perry's staff.

Maybe he can run on the secession of Texas platform. I'll vote for that.

Well his staff are the losers for thinking he had a good enough shot to earn their time in the first place.

Yeah he is, his campaign is struggling financially. He spends money like there's no tomorrow.

He undertook a vigorous trip through Iowa, but then, against the advice of staff, he and his wife Callista went on a cruise to the Greek isles, rather than continue the mundane but necessary work of tramping through other early states. Ultimately the staff revolted, and today Gingrich is left with no infrastructure and no senior adviser to help him.

I'm still trying to figure out where I said he was a loser in my post? All I did was post an article on his presidential obituary.

It's amazing that the economy is in the tank, and someone like Gingrich can raise 52 million.

I'm curious too as to what will happen to the cash if he drops out.

And can I have some?

Newt was only in it for the money.

A total loser -- and a racist to boot.
