Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State’s football coach
By RUSTY MILLER, AP Sports Writer 25 minutes ago tweet13EmailPrintCOLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)—Jim Tressel, who guided Ohio State to its first national title in 34 years, resigned Monday amid NCAA violations from a tattoo-parlor scandal that sullied the image of one of the country’s top football programs. “After meeting with university officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach,” Tressel said in a statement released by the university. “The appreciation that (wife) Ellen and I have for the Buckeye Nation is immeasurable.” Jim Tressel potentially faced further sanctions from the NCAA beyond Ohio State's five-game suspension of him. Luke Fickell will be the coach for the 2011 season. He already had been selected to be the interim head coach while Tressel served a five-game suspension. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...tresselresigns |

Interim coach for next year (due to the late timing of this) then...who's next. Urban Meyer will obviously be a name that floats around. Depending on Nebraska's performance, Pelini will get a long look from his alma mater. Hope it doesn't work that way, but we'll see.

It's about time. I've been waiting for eight and a half years for this. That's what you get for stealing from us, O$U. Karma is a biatch. Now, hopefully, the NCAA will bring down the hammer and totally destroy that program, just like they did to U$C. Take out the trash. Stay down, biatch. Is it me or does it fee like the NCAA is being just a tad ridiculous about some players selling and trading some merchandise in exchange for some tattoos?
I mean come on. What am I missing here?? |

We'll never get that title back. The NCAA has no jurisdiction to award it since there is no official national champion in college football. Even if the BCS and AP were to vacate the titles, they generally don't substitute in place another champion (as we can see with U$C's impending title vacation, Auburn isn't going to get the 2004 BCS title).
But, what's important is that there is retribution for what happened there, even if there's no title. I want pain and suffering big time for Ohio State and its fans. That's all we can get at this point and I'll be satisfied with that for now. |

Too bad we won't get to see Hoke vs Tressel. The one thing I like about Hoke is he really gets the rivalry. RR never did. This couldn't have happened at a better time for Michigan, the state of Ohio is loaded and if Michigan can get some of that talent they will be competitive sooner rather than later. I don't think they have enough to win this year though. |

I would make sense, but if OSU gets a severe punishment I don't know if a high profile coach will jump at the opportunity to coach there. But it is OSU.

I have serious doubts Bo has openly said anything about this. But it also doesn't take insider info to know he'd be very interested in coaching a powerhouse program at his alma mater, in his home state. We'll get an entire season of this speculation now - kinda sucks, but that's the nature of the game. Worst case if Bo does bolt, at least that means he had a solid season in the Big Ten and maybe Carl can take the reigns at NU and we get dueling Pelini's every year.
