Default Did Shanny inherit an over all better team than Phillips did?

Reeves left Phillips with a bunch of scrubs (Gaston Green & one or two leftover Amigos)

Phillips improved the team with Tom Nalen, Gary Zimmerman, Brian Habib, Ray Crocket, and Jason Elam. I think Shanny inherited the better team. Then he added TD, Rod, Eddie Mac, and Stinky to the offense in the first year!

Perhaps this didn't deserve it's own thread, but it is important to remember the positive effects of the Wade Philips era. Some very important players in the Super Bowl years were brought in during the time, and Elway was reinvigorated in Jim Fassel's offense. The importance of that should never be overlooked by Broncos fans. For all his faults Wade left the franchise in better shape than he found it.

Losing to Tampa at home in '93 still burns a bit raw though.

I thought Reeves drafted Nalen. Looks like the OLine was set for Shanny with some good players.

The Broncos were major players in free agency and made some big time trades to surround Elway with a lot of talent in those two years, but that was somewhat negated because the defense was ANCIENT by the time Reeves left.

Poor Charlie Waters.

Shanahan inherited a better group in my opinion.

Well, it's certainly an improvement over the other thread in that it's actually about football rather than self-vidication/delusion over McD's job performance.

Wade brought in Zim and Habib. Alan Aldridge, Crocket too. Anthony Miller and Pritchard didn't work out, but he left the cubbard better than he found it. At least he added WRs and an OT rather than drafting Maddox.

I don't know why, but I always thought Shanny brought in Zimmerman and Crockett. Apparently my memory of the Wade era is fuzzy.

Even still, the most important acquisition that Shanny had was Alex Gibbs. That offensive line was like night and day after Gibbs was through with them.

here's the difference the McDaniels supporters fail to realize-

Shanahan won 2 super bowls, while McDaniels took a young 8-8 team laden with talent and picks and ran it into the ground, getting fired midseason, and embarrassed right out of Denver.

Zimm was acquired via trade. One of the most important moments in Broncos history was the preseason injury to Don Maggs. For those who don't remember, Maggs was (i believe) the broncos first unrestricted FA signing ever and was slotted to start at left tackle in 93. After the injury, the broncos swung the deal for Zimmerman.

Yeah, and we were treated to the Tim Brown mini-saga as a result. (The Donks signed him to an offer sheet that pissed Al Davis off.)
