Default Texans trade up speculation

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle conducted a live chat with fans Monday, and at multiple points in the Q&A insisted that the Texans want to trade up in the draft.

Per McClain, their targets are Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller and LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson.

The Texans could offer their 1, 3, 4, and (Amobi) Okoye, suggests McClain regarding a potential trade up with the Broncos. Denver holds the No. 2 overall pick, which is where the Texans would almost certainly have to get to draft Miller.

... which is all well and good, except that the League year hasn't begun yet, so trading players is a non-starter.

A third and Okoye to move from eleven to two. . . what a freakin' joke.

Can't trade players though Elway being his first draft is most familar with Kudes and Rick Smith. A logical trading partner from that standpoint.

#11 is too low for my taste

They'd need to give us their 2nd, 3rd, Okoye and next years 2nd for me to be content with this happening.

Agreed, compensation is way too low. I'd move to 4 for a 3rd and 4th, but 11

Way too low for my liking. I want a shot at either Miller, Peterson, Dareus too - don't think 11 scores a sniff on any of those 3.

You begin and end conversation with:

#11
their 2nd this year
#1 pick next year
#2 pick next year
and Amobi Okoye

If they dont want that, you ask for Mario Williams instead of Amobi Okoye.

I'll consider the 1st, 3rd, 4th, Okoye, Williams and Ryans.

I'd take the 1, 3, 4 and a future first. At #11, I'd take Cameron Jordan or JJ Watt. ****, I'd even trade down again and take Liuget.

So, Okoye is thrown in because they're transitioning from the 4-3 to the 3-4 right? He was a top 10 pick a few years ago and is only 23... I wouldn't be horribly upset

Someone posted a similar (maybe same) rumor yesterday, and that just seems like an awful lot to give up.

Realistically, the Texans will have to do an intermediate trade to jump to 2.

I love how in years past I always said Denver would need an intermediate trade when the rumors of them moving up and came out because their trading partner wouldn't want to move out of "elite pick" range. I was always told if they just gave up enough on the trade chart, they could make it happen.

Now with Denver at the top of the draft and the shoe on the other foot, intermediate trades need to be made because Denver just can't move down that far.

I wouldn't want us any lower than 5th or 6th overall. We need some elite talent. Fortunately, I don't see much of a difference in talent between 1 and 5 this year (Especially if Newton goes #1)
