Default Nate Jackson on avg. NFL career length

http://deadspin.com/#!5795895

Nate Jackson is doing that writing thang again, and while he attacks it from only one side -- his -- he actually is pretty spot-on with his criticism.

How anyone can blame the players at this point is just baffling to me. Yes, DeMaurice Smith is a douchewaffle, but this PR campaign by the league is really poorly conceived, IMO.

In the interest of fairness, here's Goodell's piece from the Wall Street Journal today. LINK

There's a lot of people not quite good enough to make the season roster. Great. Absolutely no consideration should be given to them. If they want to live their life on the fringes, that's their choice.

Now, those that DO make a roster, they're probably making 10 times what their ignorant asses would probably be making elsewhere. Maybe they should've taken advantage of that free college degree and not be crying that good fortune didn't shine down upon you enouh times?

Once again, I am impressed with Nasty Nate's writing and penchant for sticking it to the NFL.

Since I own stuff I can see the owners side. I also hate that the union jumps in and out of existants. A lock out and a strike are both valid forms of negotiation.

He is increasingly sounding like someone with an axe to grind.

Fair enough, but did you read that bull**** editorial from Goodell? Christ on Friday, that was intellectually dishonest.

Nate can write the hell out a story. He has continually proven to document stories about the NFL that people seem to not want to examine. Great stuff. Thanks for posting.

I dont disagree about Goodell. I enjoy Nate's writing, because he does give an inside view to how the NFL works outside of what we see on Hardknocks or on ESPN or NFLNetwork. What I am picking up from him is that he believes he should have had a longer career than what he had. He "played" six years, five longer than he should have. He comes across as a bit bitter.

Luckily he actually has writing talent, and can (and apparently has) fall back on it.

He sure is a much better writer than a football player.

I enjoyed the article, but didn't agree one bit with it. I don't feel a bit sorry for the players, even the ones on the fringes.

Bingo. If it were really that bad a situation for them all, then don't do it. Do something else.

I think it was Nate's piece that was intellectually dishonest. Goodell just laid out some numbers.

I mean do you seriously think that Nate or anyone else is arguing that people who never make an opening day roster should have a bigger slice of the pie? Give me a break. It's all about emotion without any intention by the NFLPA of helping out those guys at all.

So good players have longer careers than bad players.

I could have saved Nate the time he took writing that pearl of wisdom...

As someone with a college degree, but struggling to even find a full time job right now, I have ZERO sympathy for any professional athlete.

I would be doing ****ing backflips to trade my 13 dollar an hour temp job for one year at league minimum.

Dear Nate, The NFL afforded you the opportunity to write about the NFL as well, whatever you're making now is thanks to those opportunities. Think about it.....

I think Nate Jackson is an extremely good writer, with very thought-provoking viewpoints.

Sure wish the Denver Post would ****can a couple of their slackers and pick him up....

"Another Shannon. Another Elway. Another Terrell Davis. These are the pressures that come with being a high draft pick in an organization with high expectations, and when you are the next Whoever, the pressure is relentless. I sat next to Tony in every meeting, and his mistakes were rewound, slo-mo'd, and broadcast through a bullhorn on a daily basis, with an obligatory "What the ****!" appended to each one. For someone who uses his brain and considers himself an actual human being, those "What the ****!"s don't sit well, especially when they are coming from an old man with a mouth full of Copenhagen who was never good enough to be told he was a piece of **** in the first place."

who is he talking about the broncos TE coach back when he played?

All I know is that Nate should give us the second article on what he thinks about punters and kickers.

youre right nate, you should go out without a coach and see how you guys play then. id wonder if even 10% of NFL coaches played in the league? some guys play, some guys coach, you dont have to have played to know the ins and outs of the position and know what it takes to succeed. jackson continues to write pointless bull****.
