Default Tebow Starting?

I thought that this was an interesting quote:

Q: How much is (offensive coordinator) Mike McCoy changing Josh McDaniels' offense?

A: It's going to be a similar offense, with a few tweaks here and there to utilize what I can do. I've got a good grasp on what we're doing. Before the lockout, I spent a lot of time with the coaches going through the playbook, and understanding what they want from me.

There are alot more excellent Tebow quotes here: http://www.denverpost.com/paige/ci_1...bref=obnetwork

I especially like this question/answer:

Q: John Elway has said you are raw as a quarterback and must become a better pocket passer. What's your response?
A: I haven't taken a snap in the offseason from the shotgun. It's all been under center, 5 and 7 (yard) drops and passes from the pocket. I've done that thousands of times, working out six-seven hours a day, seven days a week. There's a big, positive difference.

Doesn't mean he's the starter. I'm sure Quinn knows what they expect of him too.

It could be reading too much into it, but I did take notice of that quote as well. If they're making changes to the playbook, it would appear Tebow is in their plans for the future.

They arent changing the playbook for Quinn.

I boldened the above quote because it appears that the coaching staff 1) developed the playbook around Tebow to some extent, 2) got Tebow the book before the lockout, and 3) had a meeting with Tebow that included a discussion of the playbook.

In such a meeting, its reasonable to believe that they had a discussion with Tim about the kind of things they were going to say in public heading into the draft. But giving Tebow a playbook that is basically written for him so that he can work on it and/or organize workouts with offensive personnel without the coaching staff's oversight is pretty telling.

I have always believed that peoples actions spoke louder than their words, and the coaching staff meeting with Tebow with a Tebow-centric playbook speaks much louder than anything that Elway, Fox, or Xanders have said in public.

I tell you what...knowing that these guys are designing an offense around Tebow is pretty dang exciting.

Even if Tebow isn't the starter, they would still plan to use him in specialty situations, which would require changes to the playbook to facilitate.

I took a double take at that quoute as well...but, I'm not sure that they are actually writing the playbook around Tebow. They may be saying that...here is how we plan on utilizing your talents. We're going to create a more in depth Tebow Package...so, you need to work on these things.

Still doesn't really say that they are planning to hand the reigns over to Tebow...at least not the way I read it.

I hope they do...but, that specific qoute isn't tipping their hand (IMO).

yeah, his job description is don't do anything that is going to injure yourself and don't fall off the bench in case an emergency arises and you are needed.

1. He's talking about plays, not a playbook. He flat out says it's pretty much the same playbook with a few tweaks. Don't talk about what you bolded, and then expand his quote and put your own spin on it. Tim at no point says that they're designing a Tebow-centric playbook.

2. I guarantee you every player on offense under contract has the playbook, so the fact that Tim has it shows the coaching staff isn't a bunch of idiots. Orton, Quinn, Moreno, Lloyd, Royal, etc. have the playbook too.

3. Again, everyone will have met with the coaches to understand what is expected of them if there was to be a lockout. There is going to be football again at some point. They knew most likely there would be no OTAs and a shortened training camp if there was football this year. They're not going to not give anyone a playbook or not meet with them, except for Tim, and then expect everyone to show up in mid-August and be able to digest everything in a couple weeks before the real games start.

4. You know who also tweaked their playbook for Tebow? Josh. Guess who the starter was? Kyle. They had certain plays designed for Tim that Kyle couldn't run that were put in during training camp, and looking back that clearly didn't mean Tim was going to be the starter going into the season.

5. Any coach that isn't an idiot is going to design plays that play to the strengths of their starting and non-starting personnel (ex: Ronnie Brown and Josh Cribbs in the Wildcat formation, Vick came in and ran designed plays at QB before Kolb got hurt and MV became the starter).

I fully expect Tim to start on Sept. 12th, but there is nothing in that quote that even begins to say what you're sitting here trying to tell us it says.

Correct, and I expect Tim to be the starter, but there's nothing in there that even hints at Tim being the starter despite what Drama says.

The Broncos had already "tweaked" the playbook to include plays that took advantage of Tebows skills. You are essentially saying that they are doing the same thing this offseason, which Tebow wouldnt have mentioned because we already know that they have added Tebow plays. It wouldnt be worth mentioning.

Now you're starting to get it. There's no reason for Tim to have mentioned that the playbook has been tweaked to further take advantage of Tebow's strengths if the Broncos were running out those same situational packages this time around.

Thats not true at all. Many coaches around the league would consider playing two starting quarterbacks a distraction and an obstacle to continuity. You're just being too hyperbolic here. Peyton Hillis sat the bench in Denver. Schaub in Atlanta. Rogers in Green Bay.

You're just flat wrong, and not a thing you have said here is interesting at all.

agreed completely. this thread is just from looking far too closely at innocent comments.

but i do love the fact that he is working as hard as he is to get better at improving his all around game. it can be pretty much assumed that the majority of NFL players right now aren't working like he is, and that includes the current starting QB on our team.

We have new head coach is more run oriented and of course the OC is tweaking the playbook to install less spread plays and more traditional pro looks. It not always about Tebow.
