Default Tebow Radio Interview 4/22/11

Recent Tebow radio interview, discusses the lockout, and other topics. Here's the best:

Quote:
How much he thinks the lockout might be hurting him as he tries to develop into a starting quarterback in the NFL:

“Well I look at it two ways. I would love to be there going through OTAs with the coaches, with everyone; but also I look at in positive ways. I know there’s a lot of great players, but I also know there’s a lot of players out there that are loving this right now and they’re not going to work everyday extremely hungry, and they’re resting on their laurels a little bit and saying ‘hey, this is a vacation for me.’ I love that because everyday I’m looking to get better. So I believe that’s an opportunity for me to get an edge on a lot of players and I’m going to take that. Whether that’s true or not, that’s in my head and that’s all that matters.”

i really hope he's the franchise QB for us. i really don't want to lose and have Orton steering the franchise. it's one thing to lose with a young QB(though hopefully we'll be winning with a young QB)but it's another to lose or struggle with a vet.

I think Tebow is going to be real good. Like...Brady good. A lot of people forget that Brady is one of the hardest working players in the league. It's true, check. McDaniels saw that same quality in Timy and drafted him. I get a lot of comfort knowing that no matter what I am doing Tim Tebow is somewhere working his ass off to be a better QB. We are set at QB just wait and see.

He could be derailed if misused though.. he is incredibly unconventional. Imagine if Urban Meyer wasn't Tebow's coach but some body afraid to let Tebow be himself.. we likely never would have seen arguably the greatest college career ever.

It reminds me of Dirk Nowitzki in the NBA.. maybe no other coach in the NBA could have realized how to use Dirk when he came into the NBA other than Don Nelson. He let Dirk play to his strengths and become the player he had the potential to be.. the NBA talking heads balked at Dirk just like football talking heads have balked at Tebow.

So Mark Cuban panicked and tried to make Dirk ultra conventional. He dumped Don Nelson and replaced him with Avery Johnson.. one of the most by-the-books small-minded types you could imagine. Dirk did win the MVP because of Avery's motivational abilities but because Avery only knew how to use Dirk like a conventional power forward - Tim Duncan -- and the Mavs had huge holes in their team that Dirk could never fill with his unique skill set

Avery nearly destroyed all the work Don Nelson and Dirk had accomplished making Dirk an elite player. We got to see what likely would have happened had Dirk been coached by a conventional coach coming into the league rather than Don Nelson.

Luckily Cuban got wise and brought in a coach that played with Larry Bird and was more cerebral and a student of the game like Billl Bellichick in Rick Carlisle and has helped raise Dirk's status back up close to where it should be again.. but he may always be scarred by that detour especially in the NBA where you need to appeal to officials like a political campaign . I hope Tebow doesn't have to go through that same kind of thing. I hope Fox and Elway aren't the equivalent of Mark Cuban and Avery Johnson..

FWIW, I talked to David Garrard at dinner yesterday and it seems a lot of these groups are starting up around the league. I think Tebow may have been one of the first because they JUST started up this week, and I know some others are just kicking off as well.

* Feel free to disregard it or not believe me. Really don't care.

I imagine there will be a bunch of groups starting up. But you know there are also going to be a lot of guys that slack and end up hurting themselves. I like hearing that Tebow is looking to take advantage of all those fools. Nice name dropping, btw.

Meh. I don't view a QB like Garrard as name dropping, personally.

NFL quarterback = name dropping, even if he is mediocre. Kinda like having dinner with Darius Rucker of Hootie & the Blowfish.

He probably would have held on to it staring at you until the waiter took it from him.

He probably would have taken off running when he saw that there was someone seated between you and him.

With it being JAX and all, did Garrard comment generally on Tebow or anything interesting?

Didn't even think of it actually. Cliffs of conversation:

Sat down.
Did double take.
Talked about a couple mutual friends.
Asked what he was up to with the lockout.
Ate.
Nice to meet you and left.
