I suspect the letters to Mereen will accomplish something that should have already happened in the series. The Banishment of Jorah Mormont from Daenery's service.

In the books, Barriston Selmy initially came to Daenerys in disguise to offer his service. Once his identity was revealed he similarly revealed Mormont's loyalty to the Robert Baratheon and his service as a spy. She sends both men on a suicide mission through the sewers of Mereen during the siege rather than being forced to pass judgement on them. When both survive, she takes a penitent Selmy back into her service but is forced to banish a still defiant Mormont.

...
That makes a lot of sense. And when discussing the situation at the council meeting, it was emphasized that one of Dany's strengths was that she had two pretty cagey knights advising her, one of whom (Mormont) had turned coat. I can certainly see Tywin taking advantage of that situation to disrupt her inner circle.

This way, they can delay Mormont's banishment until just before other major players arrive in Essos.

On an unrelated note, what do you want to bet that the same shepherd shows up with another bundle of rags later in the series - with more disturbing contents?

The TV show seems to imply, that while diminished, after a few lessons Jaimie is well on his way to being a bad ass again.

Honestly, if they want to be more realistic, Jaimie needs to remain a shadow of his former fighting self. If Justin Verlander through some tragic accident lost his right hand and had to relearn how to pitch left handed, I doubt he would even make it to AA ball.
You have to remember that in the book, Jamie gives the outward impression that he's still has it, and that it's nothing for him to use his left hand. Only in his private thoughts does he show any weakness.

I think it is fair to say at this point what occurs in the books may not occur in the show. We have hit that point specifically this season.

But yeah, Oberyn is pretty kickass.

That would be a massive deviation from the books. I mean there have been a few changes, but I think Oberyn is one that can't be changed. And that annoys me so much, because after Tyrion, he has been the best part of this season.

He had such pretty teeth, what a shame.

Seriously though, I've been blown away by how amazingly that actor portrays Oberyn Martell. The chemistry with Dinklage in that scene made me FEEL the weight of what was being said as if I was reading it again anew. Bravo.

The Jon/Wall story line is what disappoints and makes me sad. My favorite storyline in the book(s) seems dry and empty of urgency on screen. This is due to the fact that they are dragging the war at the wall out waaaaaay too long. Reading it we are gifted with a few chapters that entail Jon being shot through the leg, to him arriving at the wall and giving warning, to an EPIC ****ing battle engaged from the north and south that is won by Jon's training as a Stark.

I nitpick, I really couldn't be happier watching one of my favorite novel series playing out on screen in such an authentic manner.

Hurry the **** up GrrM

I could feel Tyrions pain as he heard the story about how his sister hated him from the very beggining of his life.

She is an evil slut of a b****.

Yay, Oberyn is still around... for now... hope it differs from the book in this case. He is seriously like my favorite character. Its been driving me crazy for the last couple weeks. Oh and what a lucky guy who got to bang the mother of dragons! I'd kill the mountain for that opportunity.
