Uh...
Truthfully, I could care less about the goings on in Dorne. Quentyn Martell to me always came off as GRRM trying to continue the Oberyn storyline when he realized how popular that character had become. The Sand Snakes are cool, but don't do a whole lot. I just get the feeling when the show runners discuss going to Dorne that we are just going to wind up with another Mereen-style storyline that is boring as **** onscreen.

Quentyn was almost entirely different though...

Just because he's Dornish? Are you a fantasy racist?

Quentyn Martell just reinforces the old Dornish stereotype that Dornish princes are awful with dragons and literary excitement.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see what they do with Dorne.

The reason I quoted it, though, was that quote gives me no confidence that they actually know anything about Dorne, besides that it's where Oberyn is from.

"There will be Braavos, and we're excited about it. Who wouldn't want to hang out in Braavos? They have admirable values and priorities. And have you seen Jaquen's hair?"

It was a quip, and not a very good one. I think he was implying the Dornish are quite stylish, which will give the wardrobe folks and set designers chances to shine.

Or something.

For those that are looking for a ASoIaF fix, here is a very interesting theory called Southron Ambitions. It definitely sheds (theoretical) new light on Robert's Rebellion. I couldn't find if it was posted before.

It's a great thought, but I don't buy any of it. It's another inevitable byproduct of super popular series:

Fans collectively putting more thought into the series than Martin himself.

Select Scope at the top and a drop down menu will appear where you can select how far into the series you've read. Once you select that it will show the whole thing. It is their way to prevent spoilers

Wasn't it mentioned in one of the books that Aerys thought that Rhaegar was trying to rally lords around him at the Harrenhal tourney?

Yes, but it's not only a stretch to start connecting dots like that, it's also completely irrelevant, imo. It's meaningless speculation whose potential implications have already played out and are dead.

Let me clarify: That being said, I enjoyed reading it and thanks for posting it up.

You have to click the bar at the top and let it know what spoilers you can be exposed to.

I just don't recall a lot to do with Dorne before Oberyn. Then he dies and I just read it as then Dorne comes into play as a way of continuing to mention Oberyn without him being present. Because not a whole lot actually happens in Dorne. If the desire to continue a bit of Oberyn's story there really seemed no purpose for Dorne until Rhaegar torches Quentyn.

I agree that the theory is a stretch even though it is well articulated. However, I wouldn't say that it is irrelevant because the series will inevitably have to answer the question of "Why?" in regards to Varys and, as it now seems to be pushing out there, the Citadel. I think we're going to find out some crazy stuff regarding the time frame before Robert's Rebellion.

Yup, that was my thought. Technically it COULD be what happened, but it asks you to jump to quite a few conclusions throughout.

Interesting stuff on Dorne (includes Oberyn poisoning Tywin that I mentioned a year or so ago ITT):

Crazy stuff. That dude has his **** together. I don't buy his bit about the Brave Companions and Doran not backing Quentyn though. The rest of it does seem to have merit. I especially liked his break down between the sell-swords and the rivalry between Illyrio and Doran.

Yeah, it's a ton of really well thought out information. I agree that it's not all going to end-up correct, but a ton of fascinating parallels in there.

My favorite and one that I think I buying, Quentyn Martell is alive.

Dammit! Now I have to re-read the books because I really was not getting that much out of the Dorne/Martell storylines.
