I had not heard any of their prior material before, but my brother has their previous record. He claims it is very good, so I will definately have to borrow that from him soon. Have they released more than those two records? |

I believe they released an EP before the first album, but that's it. This is one of my favorite early tracks.

I haven't heard this yet...is it as good as Radios Appear?
Wow, The Minutemen's classic....I miss D Boon. ![]() I know everyone loves the obivous highlights "History Lesson Part II" & "This Ain't No Picnic" (and so do I) but I always thought "D's Car Jam/Anxious Mo-Fo" and "Jesus And Tequila" deserved equal footing. I know there are no bad songs on the record, just saying they always stood out more to me. (and I can't get away from associating it with Husker Du's Zen Arcade probably because they came out about the same time....both amazing works. |

This is the first Radio Birdman record I've heard. I picked it up off the strength of Dave Fricke's review in Rolling Stone. I love it. Has a cool surf-punk sound. I love the double guitar attack backed by the keys. Very cool stuff. My favorite tracks so far are "Remorseless" and "Die Like April", though there really is no misstep on the album. I will definately seek out their older material in the very near future.

Anyone, and I'm looking at Hogan when I say this, a fan of Bad Brains? I just found out that the company I'm working for is going to be promoting their first album. Apparently their label is re-issuing it onto CD because it was never put on CD before. They're not re-mastering it, it's going to include all of the static that the LP's and tapes did because that's how the punk kids work. I'm seriously pumped about this one.

There is an "Essential" Radio Birdman album available; based on what you've said re: their spottiness, it seems like that would be the way to go when I buy another of their albums. BTW, Hogan--what do think of the new Yo La Tengo? I think it's definately their best album since I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One. I could do with shorter versions of those three long, spacey jams, but otherwise they knocked this one out of the park. "I Should Have Known Better" is the highlight for me. So, as you can imagine, I'm thrilled with I'm Not Afraid Of You......what a return to form after nearly ten years. What a statement...they still have it and now they've returned to being what they once were...one of America's best alternative acts as well as one of the best kept musical secrets the USA has to offer. |
