Ill answer both your questions. for DB- yea, ive been a long time Sep fan but i do miss the days when Max was with them but i can listen to the new stuff but it isnt the same obviously.

as for Bronx, yea, im still doing it but at a different location. im at Vertigo Radio now in the midst of doing a Battle of the bands kind of thing over the internet. you can catch me at these times:

www.vertigoradio.com

tues- 8-10pm
weds- 8-10pm
sat- 12-5pm

all these are Eastern times. and now that i think about it i saw Smiling Assassin on the tagboard the other day over there but i guess i missed him. stop in guys and check it out, we've done some upgrading to the site and are continueing to do different things.

This is why Steven Thomas Erlewine is my favorite writer out there today. Read the whole review, it sets up the final sentence PERFECTLY!

Quote:
With their fourth album, All the Right Reasons, Nickelback ditches any pretense of being a grunge band and finally acknowledges they're a straight-up heavy rock band. Not that they've left the angst of grunge behind: they're a modern rock band living in a post-grunge world, so there's lots of tortured emotions threaded throughout the 11 songs here. But where their previous albums roiled with anger -- their breakthrough "How You Remind Me" was not affectionate, it was snide and cynical -- there's a surprisingly large sentimental streak running throughout All the Right Reasons, and it's not just limited to heart-on-sleeve power ballads like "Far Away" and "Savin' Me," the latter being the latest entry in their soundalike sweepstakes. No, lead singer/songwriter Chad Kroeger is in a particularly pensive mood here, looking back fondly at his crazy times in high school on "Photograph" ("Look at this photograph/Every time I do it makes me laugh/How did our eyes get so red?/And what the hell is on Joey's head?"), lamenting the murder of Dimebag Darrell on "Side of a Bullet" (where a Dimebag solo is overdubbed), and, most touching of all, imagining "the day when nobody died" on "If Everyone Cared" (which would be brought about "If everyone cared and nobody cried/If everyone loved and nobody lied"). Appropriately enough for an album that finds Kroeger's emotional palette opening up, Nickelback try a few new things here, adding more pianos, keyboards, and acoustic guitars to not just their ballads, but a few of their big, anthemic rockers; they even sound a little bit light and limber on "Someone That You're With," the fastest tune here and a bit of relief after all the heavy guitars. All this makes for a more varied Nickelback album, but it doesn't really change their essence. Sure, they stretch a little bit, but they still favor clumsy, plodding riffs, still incessantly rewrite the same chords and melody, still harmonize exactly the same way on every song, Kroeger still sounds as if he's singing with a hernia, he still writes shockingly stupid lines that make you long for the days of such subtle double-entendres as "she's using her head again" (such as "She'd be pissed if she could see the parts of you that I've been kissing," "It's just a little hard to leave/When you're going down on me" -- and, mind you, this album does not carry a Parental Advisory sticker, even though "a**holes" is prominently used in two songs), and despite the attempted sarcasm of "Rockstar," he still shows no discernible sense of humor. Which means, despite all their newly developed relative nuances, Nickelback remain unchanged: they're still unspeakably awful.

I have no idea why, but I've been on a HUGE rap kick lately, making my list a little, well, unusual.

Jay-Z's entire catalog
Outkast's entire catalog

Add that to

Avenged Sevenfold - "City Of Evil" (great drumming and "Sidewinder" is one of the best tracks I've heard in a LONG time)
Alicia Keys - "Unplugged"
Steely Dan - "Citizen Steely Dan" (complete collection in one box set)
Fall Out Boy - "From Under The Cork Tree"
Transplants - "Haunted Cities"

What a great box set that is....Steely Dan in it's prime was one of the very best duos the USA ever produced (and I say Duo because outside of Becker and Fagan, it was rotating session guys).

Today I was into the King Crimson box Frame By Frame......a dose of Robert Fripp's brilliance is necessary every once in awhile.

Not only that, but the sound quality. I mean, my God, there's stuff on there that sounds like it was made yesterday.

THE DOORS BREAK ON THROUGH
TO THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE

Inspired Philadelphia Concert Captures The Band On Its Last Tour, Available From Rhino Handmade November 29

LOS ANGELES — Mr. Mojo was indeed rising when The Doors returned to the road in 1970 after a year plagued by concert cancellations stemming from controversial charges of lewd, indecent and drunken behavior from a March 1969 show in Miami. The Doors had just completed recording the astonishing Morrison Hotel when they launched a tour in April 1970 in Boston. Back on stage for what would be the band’s final tour before singer Jim Morrison’s death the following year, the band was dialed in and at their blistering best. Rhino Handmade Recordings captures one of the highlights from that spring tour with THE DOORS: LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA. Featuring the complete show recorded May 1, 1970 at the Spectrum, the two-disc set is available November 29 at www.rhinohandmade.com and select retail outlets for a suggested price of $29.98.

The evening began with the local fire marshal telling fans to return to their seats and clear the aisles or the show would be cancelled. When The Doors – Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger – finally took to the stage, the quartet unleashed a stomping rendition of “Roadhouse Blues” from Morrison Hotel. The Philadelphia show found The Doors balancing the band’s mystical explorations with gritty blues and includes the band’s cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Back Door Man,” their own hits, “Light My Fire” and “Break On Through (To The Other Side)” along with epic musical voyages through “When The Music’s Over” and Elvis Presley’s “Mystery Train.”

Engineer Bruce Botnick recorded several shows – including the Philadelphia concert - on multi-track tape from The Doors’ 1970 tour for the Absolutely Live album. The superior quality of the original tape reflects Botnick’s and his team’s attention to sonic detail. Botnick also mixed and mastered THE DOORS: LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA. All tracks on LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA are previously unreleased.

The album’s liner notes vividly set the scene at the Spectrum and include recollections of the show by all three surviving band members. “That was where Doctor J [Julius Erving] played with the Philadelphia 76ers,” says Manzarek of the Spectrum, with a note of awe. “We were out there on the court – it was like the 76ers and the Lakers, but we were all on each other’s side. It was us and Philadelphia. And Philadelphia is a great, great town for rock and roll – one of the best in the country – not to mention cheese steak, which I had the next night.”

“We didn’t have monitors and the mains were pointed away from us,” Krieger recalls. “I couldn’t hear a damn thing. I felt like I was on acid. But I felt we played pretty well.”

“Jim was in good spirits,” notes Densmore. “By that I mean he was in that delicate balance where he had a buzz – which took the edge off his nerves – but wasn’t too intoxicated.”
