You have similar tastes in music. Very eclectic.

But that album alone shows that you are able to go deep into genres despite your diverse take in music.

Great great stuff.

Amazing album.

Here's a good place to start if you're looking for contemporary, state-of-the-art fusion:

http://www.scotthenderson.net/

Clips:

http://www.scotthenderson.net/nairobe24.mp3

http://www.scotthenderson.net/jakarta16.mp3

http://www.scotthenderson.net/slidin11.mp3

Scott's solo stuff is on the bluesy side, whereas his band "Tribal Tech" is more jazz/rock/fusion-oriented:

Another fusion guitar virtuoso not to miss is Frank Gambale:

http://www.frankgambale.com/pages/home.html

Some other monster contemporary fusion guitarists to check out:

Allan Holdsworth
Michael Landau
Carl Verheyen (First two CDs)
Mike Miller (The Outsidemen)
Steve Lukather (With the band "Los Lobotomys")

Still in continuous play mode:

I've been popping this bad boy in the system, cranking the volume, and putting in 45 minutes or so on the elliptical machine. Good motivational music.

Yeah buddy!

I may be biased inasmuch as Scott was one of my teachers, but I think he's one of the baddest guitar players on the planet.

The new "Live" disc is sort of bluesy and features the trio Scott performs with most of the time nowadays.

Scott's recordings with the band "Tribal Tech" are more fusion-oriented, and feature more adventurous compositions and more balls-to-the-wall soloing.

Cool.

I'll have to check it out. I like to steal musical ideas from all genres. For instance, I'm not much of a C&W fan, but I'd be a fool if I didn't acknowledge that those Nashville guys are killer players. I steal licks from Brent Mason, Albert Lee, et al, at will. My philosophy is that there are only two kinds of music - good and bad.

Hey, if learning some of those bluegrass players' licks will make me a better player, then I'm there! BTW, any guitar player who does a lot of hybrid picking, i.e., pick and fingers technique, can thank Earl Scruggs.

I try to explain that to my 15 year old and he doesnt believe me that it will help him in the long run.........he thinks the casualties/ramones/DK/sex pistols ect are the center of the universe.
