Darrent partied in the same location as gang bangers and got shot. He'd be alive today partied in a location where there were not gang bangers. In part, its his own stupid-a$$ fault. Now get over it and move on. Boo freakin hoo.

While you've pointed out one very simple fact, you've definitely missed the point of the entire article.

The author wasn't simply trying to say he partied with gang-bangers and now he's dead. He showing the stark contrast between the success that Brandon Marshall has had and his role in this tragedy and the Javon Walker's lack of success since the tragedy and his lack of a role in it.

There's that stark contrast that paints this picture of who these people really are, and what we can learn about them. Certainly there's the difference between Javon's upbringing in rural Louisiana and his mother's trials and tribulations being on her own versus the family/gang atmosphere that Darrent Williams (and though its not stated) Brandon Marshall grew up in, and how this affected them after the tragedy.

Marshall could move on, despite what he says. He'd seen it before. Walker could not. He ended up trusting someone he shouldn't, a victim of a robbery and a beating in Las Vegas, because he was too trusting.

Its a tremendous article. An incredible comparison.

When I raised my children, one of the most important things I tried to leave with them was - you are no better than the people you surround yourself with. It doesn't matter if they are friends or not. If you put yourself in places where people will go for a gun or go to violence to settle a dispute then YOU put yourself at risk and YOU are not completely innocent of the action of others. There are consequences for ALL our choices. This incident was not simply a matter of the wrong place at the wrong time. One can see why trouble follows Brandon Marshall.

Unfortunately, my family became very close to another family who lost their 20 year old son (similar age to my children at the time) in a murder situation that is unbelievably similar to the Darrent Williams story. Basically good young man, putting himself in a party situation with some very bad people who came after a friend of the young man and then was mistakenly murdered. This happened about 1 year after the DWill situation and the family still hasn't recovered.

I think Darrent was at heart a very fine person. His premature and unfortunate death turned him into the perception of an ALL-PRO cornerback by many. His second year in the league illustrated that he had short comings at cornerback and the league was starting to learn how to play him to their advantage. He certainly had become an improvement over some of those who were forced into play before him. An All Pro NO. The jury was still out in my opinion. He certainly was very likable as a player and by no means was a bad player.

This is a sad sad story that should and COULD have been avoided by all involved.

good read. Thanks for sharing. I always thought D Will was a little over valued as the player he was at the time of his demise. Blame Manning for that. But I was really looking forward to who he would become. It's a sad situation all around. For those of you who will further demonize Marshall (I am no fan of his) he will live with this the rest of his life. He was probably to young to appreciate what happened but he has the rest of his life to think about it.

That's an incredibly shallow culture.

Darrent was a budding star. He would likely still be occupying the spot opposite Champ today had he not been hit by the bullet of a pansy with a gun.

How wonderful to have the Mane blessed with a turd that knows it all and has all the answers....and completely missed the point of the article. Not surprising.

I find it interesting that this one tried to talk about Clark's motivations. I hope one day that idiot realizes he's never getting out of jail and talks about them himself. after a decade or so of contemplation, you never know.

this article is not judging Marshall, come on. it's showing the contrast between him and Walker, yeah, but the point is not that there is a right and a wrong, a good guy and a bad guy (oh omane: remember when Walker was universally the bad guy?). it's that there isn't. we know Marshall feels guilty. you'd have a hard time trying to convince anyone that pays attention that he's faking it.
