Default The Series Finale Of "Big Love"

Anybody here watch Big Love? Crazy ending, did not see that coming.

The final season started slow but I ended up enjoying it.

Anybody else?

I watched it and thought it was awesome.

As soon as I seen that guy in the end I knew it was over.

See even then when they were talking I didn't think it would turn violent. I mean, you could tell something was off with the neighbor being upset, but I didn't think they'd just kill Bill off.

Sorry, it was insanely predictable. They've been playing with the "crazy Mormon going to do something stupid because they are sheep" theme all season. Plus, HBO end a series by killing a main character? Not like that's happened before...err. nevermind.

Not only did I think Bill was going to be killed, I think he HAD to be killed. Simply put, Bill was a dictator. A selfish, horrible character that consistently put his own needs/beliefs in front of his family's, while simolteanously pushing the woman's movement back a hundred years. Bill never had to make the sacrifices his wives made and consistently held back their ambitions and dreams with his BS rhetoric from texts that were hundreds of years old. Barb was obviously the character to make the most sacrifice and was trying to find ways to flourish in her compromised life. Nikki, the most troubled, consistently attempted to gain voice as she was silenced for most of her life. And young Margene was just a child when she got married and really had no clue what she was getting into. Bill would let her off her leash for a while, only to reel her back in when she got too independent.

Simply put, for these women to reach their true potential and happiness, that dictator had to go. And he did. And didn't they look happy "eleven months later"?

I see what you're saying but for me I wouldn't have expected the neighbor to do it. I mean, I would have expected somebody from Juniper Creek or something. I mean, the neighbor killing him had nothing to do with Mormonism, it had to do with his marraige falling apart, etc.

The "reason" for someone to kill Bill was completely arbitrary. If this was the big secret of the show to you, youre desperately missing the point of his death

Not at all; I was just responding to a post about the killer specifically. I agree with what you said earlier. The wives are happy, the daughter came back and even went to church, etc. Everybody is happier without him, and your point on his controlling nature is taken. It was also seen in his professional dealings with his partner Don.

As someone who has lived in utah his entire life and grew up around the church, I always found this show interesting. I was a bit surprised by the ending, but knew something big had to happen. Another very good HBO series that I'm going to miss.

There are inaccuracies, but that is to be expected. I think it is far more accurate than I had anticipated it would be. I don't think this show takes shots at Mormons, that isn't its intent. It is very fair, in my opinion. I'm not personally of the faith, but a lot of my family and friends are. I found it amusing that the struggle and debate that the Henrickson's were having this season in regard to calling themselves Mormon, with the church adamantly refuting that polygamists should use that title, reflects conversations I have had with Mormons about the issue. Watching that show, discounting the elements that get trumped up for entertainment and dramatic effect, it really feels like Utah.

Should have been a Juniper Creeker, his dad, or one of the Greens. Maybe have Wanda come back, go bat**** crazy and kill him. And while Le-Lo is right about Bill becoming the dictator, Bill still had somewhat of a, hell I don't know, call it a "goodness" about him. He might have burned a lot of people, and while i wouldn't ever want to be one of his friends, still, he did want what was best for his friends and family. But still he was a controlling, somewhat benevolent dictator.

And WTF was with the old man all of a sudden becoming a loving, caring husband? I didn't like or get that at all? Why after 4 seasons of making him the most insufferable prick on that show, did they have to give his character a complete 180?

Wait!...I thought this show ended when Roman Grant was shot by those other sycophants from that other brainwashed sect. The mormons are one of the least deserving religions to deserve a "compelling" drama.

The last 2 years were the best by far of that series and midway through this last season was the best stuff of all. The writing was excellent and the plot got very interesting. The last few episodes I felt they tried to pack too much in there and it got predictable. The ending was pathetic, a total let down for me. Not because Bill dies but I thought the drama was very lackluster to say the least.

Now Shameless, that's a damn good program. I still have to say Dexter is king but Shameless has surprised the hell out of me. It's damn good.

I don't think the LDS mormons wanted anything to do with being associated with a drama like Big Love. It was almost like a drama about pedophile Catholic priests.

Shameless just got picked up for a second season. I love that show. Showtime has a lot of my favorite shows now. Shameless, Weeds, Hung, and Californication.
