If there is one band from 60s that I would love to see play live it would be these guys. Bruce Palmer and Dewey Martin are gone. They don't mention Jim Messina coming back to play bass. So they'll have to put together a rhythm section. But it sounds like Neil Young wants this to happen. Steve Stills and Richie Furay sound like they're on board, with David Crosby as well. This would be awesome!

That would be a good reunion show to see.
We went to Richie Furay's church in Boulder in the late 80s - I forget the name of the school we met at though. |

I saw them right here in Decatur, IL in the late 60's (1967 or 68) They played at a club called the Morgue and a good friend of mine got an autographed buffalo from them. I worked at the club and the only thing they served was popcorn and soda.

hmmm, I thought Messina did some kind of reunion gig with Kenny Loggins a while back. And I know Poco did a reunion tour with Messina and Miesner and Furay in the 80s.

Seeing a bunch of eldery guys clinging to their youth like that is an awkward thing to behold. It would be different if they had grown up, become adults, and then came back, but most of those guys avoid maturity like its Richard Simmons.

I hadn't realized they'd already done a Bridges School benefit. That's cool. Neil Young and CSN have done some good stuff for those kids.

Nothing changes but the date.
Anyway, might be worth seeing. They probably don't have more than an hour or so of material (If they stick to Buffalo Springfield songs) to play live. Joe Walsh toured a few years ago with the original James Gang, and while what they played was good, a lot of people left pissed because the show was so short. |

I am really into the Zac Brown Band, wish he would get away from the Jimmy Buffet type party songs and do more like Colder weather and Free but it is a nice mix from an up and coming band who paid their dues.

I loved For What It's Worth and Stephen Stills. They didn't do a lot of songs as Buffalo Springfield but I wouldn't mind seeing them. Never a big fan of Young's and Messina went down the drain as far as I'm concerned with Loggins.

Tell us more about how musicians who reach the age of 60 should quit playing music.

Going to watch old bands is always a disappointment. They always play the songs slower and cant hit some of the old notes that they used to. Instead of bringing along real instruments (like hammond B3's) they bring cheesy synths with cheesy old guy patches. And they charge out the wazoo, but they dont really bring along the type of trappings you expect from an expensive show. And they can only play for so long, so you're paying 150 bucks for a 45 minute to an hour set...where they have to include their new stuff off of their crappy new album. So you're basically paying for nostalgia. Ripping off the elderly like a TV preacher. Last edited by epicSocialism4tw; 03-09-2011 at 08:37 AM.. |
