Default Houston Nutt says "No, thanks" to Nebraska.

Nutt turned down $2 million to coach Nebraska. That would have more than doubled his salary at Arkansas. I guess Nutt thinks he has a better future at Arkansas.

Nebraska has been turned down twice. What's the deal?

Bo will be their coach. It's starting to look real bad for Nebraska.

Sounds like Nutt bumped up his deal quite a bit at Arkansas. Acourding to Pederson (Nebraska's AD) he was never officially offered the job, and no where near that type of money was discussed. LINK

Actually I see alot of similarities between Bo Pelini and other young coaches like Stoops and Gruden when they were first hired..... I would rather have Pelini as a coach here than Nutt or Saunders.

That all depends. If Bo Pelini stays I think the defense actually improves next year. They completly dominated Michigan St. in the Alamo bowl and half the defensive starters are sophmores.

This is true..... but these things tend to take care of themselves if the right man is named for the job.

I heard a rumour that Frank Solich was going to Illinois... had you heard anything about that illbroncsfan?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Pelini offered the job, he's been a Husker long enough to use the effecient schemes, plus that bowl game against Michigan State proved him well, MSU is better than a lot of people may think.

Evenrude- Heard nothing about Solich coming to Illinois, but wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility, but he would first have to come as a coordinator. Ron Turner was regretfully retained after this past disastrous season.

Tom Osbourne is the only man who can get away with a 3 loss season at Nebraska.

There's a lot of pressure on whoever takes the job.

OK, so Nebraska did not "offer" Houston Nutt its coaching job. Obviously, AD Steve Pederson fared well in those two prerequisites of modern sports business, "Introduction to Plausible Deniability" and "Semantics 101."

NEBRASKA: Houston Nutt rejected the school's $2 million coaching offer, saying strong family ties and a job left undone kept him at Arkansas.
"I could not take my family, myself, and get on that plane," Nutt said at a news conference. "My heart was here."

Nutt said he was flattered by Nebraska's offer, but it was best for him to remain in his home state. He has won nine regular-season games twice, in 1998 and 2002. His Razorbacks finished 9-4 this season after beating Missouri in the Independence Bowl.

Nebraska fired coach Frank Solich in November after a 9-3 regular season. The Cornhuskers finished 10-3, beating Michigan State in the Alamo Bowl under interim coach Bo Pelini.

Nebraska athletic director Steve Pederson said that the coaching job hasn't been offered to anyone yet and that he simply wanted Nutt to come to campus for a formal interview.

Looks like Nebraska is looking at Mike Zimmer now.... meanwhile Pelini was on the Oklahoma sideline last night at the Sugar Bowl.

I'm lovin' this!

I don't blame anyone for turning them down....even at 2Mil a year! Er, uh, wait a minute......did you say $2,000,000.00 per year? I might have to think about it if they call me......I'd only last 1 season because I would throw every game, but heck! 2 MILLION BUCKS!

Might not look bad to a guy sittin' at home on the couch.....but for a guy who is gainfully employed.....why would you want to coach a team that fires it's coach after a 9 win season?

I think Barry Switzer is available......

Basically, Trev Alberts (Nebraskan alum) said that Nutt used Nebraska for a raise out of Arkansas. He mentioned it last Wednesday and Thursday.

Houston Nutt called Trev Alberts a goofball! A goofball?

Then Alberts phoned Nutt last Friday to apologize. Nutt said it wasn't enough, "I want him to go on the air and apologize. I'm not through with it."

Alberts refuses. Trev is an ESPN analysist! Why is he letting his loyalty to Nebraksa get in the way of his job.

I know for a fact that Nebraska had a plane at the NW Arkansas Regional airport. I also know that Pederson stayed as a guest in Nutt's home on Jan.1-2. There is no doubt Nutt would have been hired as Husker coach had he boarded that plane that had been sent to take him to Nebraska. The money would have been in excess of two million dollars, regardless of what Pederson may now say publicly or what Alberts professes.

I have alot of respect for Alberts, but he let his emotions get the best of him.

Steve Pederson is the least popular man in Nebraska. Not that Callahan was a bad choice for coach, we lucked out there, but the underhanded, sneaky way he goes about things. The only thing about the deal that I don't fully know about is the dollar figures involved. It's obvious that Nutt was offered the job, but was if for anywhere near the 2-2 1/2 million that was reported? Not sure we will ever know the truth there......

Hey Parrothead, I love Jimmy Buffet!

I'm just getting this out, because Trev Alberts never will.

Only Pederson and Nutt know the truth. Nutt is more believable. Most Arkansas fans love Nutt, and think he's a man of great character. But that's not the point.

Alberts took the liberty to question Nutt's credibity on the air with misinformation. He privately apologized to Nutt the next day, but he won't say he was wrong on the air.
