I hope so. If we can keep and then eventually roll him to safety I would be pleased. I want him to retire a Bronco more than I want to see him get a ring with another team.

This is the dealbreaker for me on whether or not he is worth retaining at his current market value. He's already said he eventually wants to do it, and would be willing to take a front-loaded contract in order to prevent being paid top-cornerback cash as a safety. With that in mind, and considering what a great and relatively injury-free athlete he's been throughout his career, it makes total sense to feel OK giving the guy another 5-6 year contract.

Great news. Look at Houston to find out what going with a young secondary can do to you.

Champ's said he wants to play with Tebow, and watching them on the sidelines, it's pretty clear that he's a mentor to Tebow. If Champs signed, I really don't see them keeping Orton and using that money instead to entice Champ.

The previous contract that was pulled late in the season had specific logic around Champ moving to safety. I'm sure that has been agreed upon by all parties.

The problem is no one has ever paid a 35 year old safety that much money.

Champ has 4-5 years at CB/S barring injury

I love CHamp and want him to stay but it has to be at a price that does not hamstring a young team in 2 years

The only way it would be hamstringing the team is if he becomes seriously injured or his play just somehow drops off a cliff. I really don't see either of those things happening.

Champ can't call his own shots here...its a matter of how much he wants to stay in Denver and that is really the only draw. We could apply the tag but its not bowlens style with his elite. With the cba mess, it may be the best option for both parties untill a deal is done. Do you risk handing out a huge signing bonus to simply lose against the cba? Does Champ want to see what this franchise can do with Fox for a season? You have to consider the intangibles behind the deal.
