Default When Did Taxes Become Cool?

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'cos I'm the Taxman
Yeah, I'm the Taxman.

Should five percent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'cos I'm the Taxman
Yeah, I'm the Taxman.

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street, ((car))
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat, ((sit))
If you get too cold, I'll tax the heat, ((cold))
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet. ((walk))

Taxman.

'cos I'm the Taxman
Yeah, I'm the Taxman.

Don't ask me what I want it for (ha ha Mr. Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more (ha ha Mr. Heath)
'cos I'm the Taxman
Yeah, I'm the Taxman.

Now my advice for those who die (Taxman)
Declare the pennies on your eyes (Taxman)
'cos I'm the Taxman
Yeah, I'm the Taxman.

And you're working for no-one but me (Taxman).

Narcissism is apparently it's own reward. I think this why Glenn Beck can cry on the drop of a hat. This explains why we as citizens have no forum for discussion. Our lack of empathy is our biggest national failing.

Taxes are what we pay for civilization.

I recommend that all those who refuse to pay their taxes, or call taxation "theft", move themselves to a place without civilization. South Sudan, Darfur, Somalia are all good choices.

Anything done in moderation is fine. But like smoking, drinking, and other things taxes done to excess are a very bad thing.

Taxes above 40% is theft. That for me is the line between contributing your fair share and simply getting ripped off and misused by your own government. You can't have personal liberty without personal wealth.

I agree that excessive taxes are bad. The key is "excessive", and what that means.

The question wasnt whether or not taxes are necessary, but when did they become cool?

When did rock musicians, actors, artists, writers, and rappers begin to support taxation publicly (but dodge them privately)?

What the heck is cool about telling other people to give up their hard-earned money to a bunch of faceless, wasteful politicians so that they can give to the people that paid into their campaign?

You forgot the internet - oh wait, that began as a government program.

Without the governmental provision of infrastructure - not just things like roads, but also protection of property rights, courts, defense, police, etc., all that private activity would be virtually impossible.

The government has a role to play - mindlessly cutting it, as the GOP is doing, solves nothing and makes things worse.

Where did you get the 40% figure?

When did corporate welfare become cool? Nobody wants to give up anything.

The problem is nationally we all think that we are deserving. Nobody wants to look at the root cause because if you do that somehow you don't get it or you missed the mark.

http://www.999ideas.com/corporate-welfare-examples.html

Taxes are going up or we are going to get cuts in the wrong places. We keep looking for band aide solutions and refuse to look into the whole root cause.

People think that the politicians don't hear what we say. They hear it clearly and in response to that they are making stupid decisions not looking any deeper than the short term immediate fix.

Americans are loath to think long term about anything. We suffer from some kind of happy amnesia.

Mindlessly taxing and raising taxes during a recession is about the least intelligent state policy that I have ever heard of.

I dont know anyone who believes that "corporate welfare" is a good thing.

The Tea Party sprung into existence with the Bush bail outs.

You can't have tax cuts and massive increases in government spending. That's far less intelligent - and it's been your ideology's mantra for decades now. We're in the mess we're in because you and your ilk perceive government is the problem. It isn't.

How much of our taxes go to that? A large percentage of our taxes pay the interest on our debt. The interest slice of the federal pie keeps getting bigger, so there's an ever-decreasing percentage for everything else. It doesn't help that we have record deficits every year.

So why are entitlements and defense spending off the GOP list for cuts?

When you work on a budget, you start with your biggest expenses and see what can be done with them; you don't start with the smallest and eliminate them willy-nilly. The whole GOP strategy is stupid. Period.

Yup, these people don't get it and probably never will. While giving lip service to cutting spending, debt, and government size and reach they support politicians and policies that generally do the opposite and then try to pin in on Dems and the left (who, by the way, are also guilty). They make the government and the poor the bad guys while giving big business a free pass. And they whine about taxes when the tax burden is at or near the lowest point it's been in our lifetimes. They are hypocritical products of the poisonous, dishonest right wing rhetoric and propaganda that has duped them into supporting the system that enriches the elite at the expense of everybody else. Sad, really.

Completely agree. We know why the GOP can't reduce military spending, just like why the dems can't reduce their pet projects. When our debt is this bad, nothing can be left out in the way of cuts.
