Default GPS Suggestions

I just found out I am getting a new job and I will be doing quite a bit of traveling. I plan to get a GPS unit for my car, anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to spend much more then 150.

Thanks,
SoDakB

Android phones have the best GPS... they will actually direct you whereas you will have to look at the phone on iphone (proper GPS is something like 200 bucks... thanks apple).

I have a GPS app on my droid that is awesome. You could buy a dock for your car and put the smart phone on it and use the ap. It works better than my buddy's GPS he paid 150 buck for.

Do you have to buy the "app" on your droid phone? Is that a monthly cost or a onetime fee? Also, if I decide to get the droid, which one would you recommend?

Get a Droid. Download and update your Google Maps and download Street View for Google Maps.
Get a dock, download Vlingo for ultimate in-car experience

I have my phone with Verizon. I am due for an upgraded phone, wasn't sure if I wanted to pay more for internet and all that per month, but it would save me from buying a 150 dollar GPS. I didn't know if the phone's were up to snuff with Garmins, tomtoms ect.

The one I saw online for GPS was 119 on Amazon, Garmin 265 WT:

Did you mean 1350LMT? I couldn't find your model #? The 1350 LMT looks to have good reviews.

Well if you don't have a smartphone right now, then it'll prolly be more cost-efficient to buy a gps (150 one time fee, as opposed to a recurring $30 monthly fee). I would actually ask my employer if they would benefit from me having a smartphone that provides unlimited email and web access; you might get them to cover the monthly fee lol.
If you can manage that, I'd get the HTC incredible.

Otherwise, if you have a radioshack around your area, they're running a pretty good sale on most of their gps. I'd recommend getting a garmin nuvi.

Sorry that is what I meant....garmin for sure.....but its better paying the one time fee...plus you get the free updates....makes it nice....very user friendly as well. I enjoy mine a lot.

I''ll try and swing that lol. The first year I travel quite a bit and doing onsite training, and after that it won't be quite as bad. I will prob lean towards a gps unit bc I don't think they'll cover the extra cost of a smart phone. Although I will eventually break down and get one probably, I am always late to the party with phones though.

I really think you will be happy with a garmin.....they work really well and are very clear and up to date.....now if I could just get a vehicle to drive for me so I could sleep and follow the garmin....that would be awesome!

Now if we're talking voices I really recommend Ozzie Osborne or Groundskeeper Willie.

I own a Garmin as well - as said above, if you don't have a smartphone already and don't plan on buying one, skip the $30/month and buy the GPS.

There are free GPS aps available, but yes, you will have to shell out 30 bucks every month for a data plan. Honestly it's a great investment for what all you can do with it. Just make if you have to drive all over the country you get Verizon because AT&T's coverage sucks which would defeat the purpose of GPS that route.

I have sprint with the EVO 4G and pay $78 a month, and that includes unlimited text, talk mobile to mobile, and data. And there are two built in turn by turn voice guided GPS navigation apps, that both work extremely well
