Default Champ Contract Talks Continue

Champ Bailey and the Broncos re-start contract talks
Quote:
Contract negotiations between the Broncos and star cornerback Champ Bailey have resumed.
"He's a guy we have strong feelings about," coach John Fox said. "We've had some dialogue there. There have been discussions.
"He's a guy we definitely want to bring back. You never know how things like that work out, but we're moving forward as best we know how."
Bailey recently completed his seven-year, $63 million contract with his 10th Pro Bowl appearance, a record among NFL cornerbacks. He will be eligible for un-restricted free agency once the league and the players union reach a settlement on a new collective bargaining agreement.
While a few teams have applied franchise tags to their most prominent unrestricted free agents, the Broncos aren't expected to take that strategy with Bailey because doing so would essentially guarantee him a whopping $15 million salary for the 2011 season.

Yeah that one was my fault - and i've b****ed about vague titles in the past as well.

Guess I didn't learn from that

Just saw this on twitter as well. Good news that the Broncos are at least going to make an effort to pursue him rather than let him walk in free agency. He is still even at his age one of the top 5 cb's in the league and I believe will continue to be for several more years. Let's not forget that he is in a position to move to another position of need at Safety after he has lost a step at cb. I sure hope we resign him and make him a Bronco for the rest of his career.

Can not be... Some a-hole posted earlier that Champ is selling his house and the only reason he has listed his house is because he is leaving Denver. Who would keep posting such crap

We won't retain Champ unless:

1. We have a great chance at winning in the playoffs in the next 2 years.
2. We give him a LOT of $$$.

Sadly, I don't see either of these things happening.

I heard Kirwan suggesting that Richard Marshall might be following Fox to Denver. He was a restricted free agent in Carolina last year. I wonder how much money he might command.

Right. Also DeAngelo Williams, Ryan Kalil, Thomas Davis and James Anderson.

I've read they may focus on keeping Johnson, Davis, and Kalil. I could see us targeting Anderson, Marshall, and Williams.

From the Saints (Dennis Allen), maybe Anthony Hargrove and Roman Harper.
