Default Denver is on the clock.... What do you do as GM

So here is a poll without having to use "What ifs"

For arguement sake Lets say Carolina picks Cam Newton (Or any other player that no one on the Broncos message board wants and Denver is now on the clock with basically an open draft board.....

What do you want Denver to do.

I wouldn't be unhappy if we took any of them but I would prefer Dareus myself and if we could trade down pick up a 2nd and still get him I would be estatic

My question is, what do we consider "little value"? Is that compared to the draft board, or truly getting almost nothing in return? I think that's a major difference in how favorably people view trading down. For example, I'd make the trade mentioned already in this thread: #2 (2600 points) for #5 (1700) and #38 (520). Although the Broncos would "get screwed", losing out on 380 points on the draft board, I think there's a lot of value at 38, and Denver would be picking from similar talent at #5. If you're talking trading down just to move back, receiving, say, 2011 and 2012 3rd's to move back from #2 to #10, then no; stay at 2 and grab whoever you've evaluated as the BPA.

If we trade down and get Dareus I'll go so far to say as I'd be elastic.

Agreeing with what was previously mentioned, the best case scenario for me would be trading down if we can snag a 2nd round pick and still be able to get Marcell Dareus in the first. If we cannot do that, then Fairley at no.2 would be my choice. Dareus plus a no.2 trounces Fairley though

I picked trade down to gain another 2nd rounder and still get a great player.

Don't like your poll it's rigged to give you the result you want. You Must be a Democrat!
How about an option that says trade down get good value for the pick and still get a
good player with our pick.

Take Peterson. Get a few DL in FA and grab one in the 2nd round.

I'd prefer Marcell Dareus. If we were to move down a few spots and still land him, I'd be stoked but I wouldn't be disappointed at all if we took him at #2.

I was real high on Fairley for a while, and feel that DT is still a bigger need than corner, but something about Fairley worries me. I feel he has a significant bust factor that may or may not be warranted, plus some of the better draft guys are starting to cool on him and put Dareus ahead of him. Peterson still seems to be the most elite player of the draft as well as being the most consistent.

Trading down could work if there is a player we feel is worth the #2 overall pick that could be had later, but if we miss out on a guy just because we want to pick up an extra 4th, we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot.

If we trade out of #2, we are getting a 3rd at a bare min. I remember when the Browns traded up one spot to get Winslow Jr. and gave up a 2nd.

Until someone is smart enough to come up a real trade scenerio, Not a, "I hope we get everything we want" BS type of comment....Like yours, I stay away from the dream trade down that never happens.

PS: When I want your opinion, I will give it to you.

i want us to trade down regardless of who is available to us. i don't see anyone worth the number 2 pick. There is no Suh in this draft, the only possibility worth the number 2 is Peterson......maybe, but i think we can trade back 3 or 4 spots and still get him. I would be interested in trading back a few slots and getting Von Miller, but i would prefer get completely out of the top 10

my dream scenario would be to trade out of the top 10 and get Stephen Paea and add another 2nd rounder.

Trade back to 7-10 range, adding a 2nd in 2011 and a 2nd in 2012, and target:

1. Marcel Dareus, DT
2. Von Miller, SLB
3. Corey Luiget, DT
4. Akeem Ayers, SLB

Four excellent prospects at our two positions of biggest need in switching to a 4-3. (Well MLB might be the biggest need, but we`ll have to sign Niko off the street for that, or develop someone from the second or third round.)

I say trade back to somewhere between spots 5-7. Net a 2nd rounder, and draft either Dareus or Peterson (Whichever player is available.) If we deal Orton for a 2nd too, 4 2nd round picks on front seven players would go a long way to shoring us up defensively. It would also give us the added flexibility to trade back into the first if necessary.
