Mine is, "As Good as it Gets".

To me the great movies get better every time you watch them.

"As Good as it Gets" does that.

"Dances with Wolves"

It's not the absolute best movie...
but I always liked Tom Berringer in "Dog Soldiers".

"Gladiator" - Russell Crowe

"The Princess Bride" is a very clever comedy

"The Lord of the Rings" trilogy was incredible

Sorry... I don't follow rules very well.
I don't think any one movie can be the best.
Great thread idea though....

Mine has to be Shawshank Redemption.

Came out when I was three and I didn't know how to pronounce it but I tried my best.

My dad loved it so I watched it all the time without ever understanding it haha

His Girl Friday. (and yes I know none of you have ever heard of it since it came out in 1940). but I love Cary Grant and his banter with Rosalind Russell puts all stupid chick flicks to shame. Plus Howard Hawks as a director kicks ass. He directed the original Scarface in 1932 for instance, but also excellent films like the one above, Bringing Up Baby (another excellent Cary Grant film with my favorite Kate Hepburn) and even westerns like Rio Bravo (with John Wayne). At any rate His Girl Friday is my favorite, but it's really difficult to pick just one. I have a lot in different genres and represenative of different times in film history. (I was a film major and thus a certified lifetime movie junkie).

Jaws 1

love the scene of them in the middle of the night comparing battle wounds, and of course, the "we're gonna need a bigger boat".

I used to do a lot of shark fishing when I lived on the Chesapeake.
